[Video] Open letter from community to Elite Dangerous

The posts in questions are obviously already deleted but you can still see the reaction of the mods:
Sorry, just to confirm - were these horrible deleted posts made by the signatories of the OL? Previously you said yes and I was shocked by this so I just want to make sure we're not talking crossed purposes. If it was random scroats then, as you've graciously accepted, it should not reflect on those who wrote the letter.

It's a misunderstanding. I referred to individuals who signed the petition (=signatories), not the initiators of the Open Letter.

Couple of thoughts on this:

A) 'It's a video game.' is a poor argument I often hear. The hours of investment and the strong emotional ties created by games are important to us all I think (otherwise why are we here talking about this)? Elite might take place in an imaginary world, but the emotions/connections/time spent on it are very real, and using terms like 'its just a game' invalidates that.

Yet 'it's a video game' has been exactly the retort used in the past when one might complain about some of the behaviour of griefers/gankers ruining the game experience for others. I agree it's a poor argument - just wish some others would remember that as well.

So constitutes dev bashing and hateful comments? I'm pretty sure moderators delete any truly hateful, bashing comments. So what remains must be "free speech criticism", no?

The update after December will probably come sometime March / April (IIRC the plan was to have quaterly updates between 3.3 and the next era?), so I would expect info on that shortly before or after the December update.
They said every 3-4 months for the small patches
Dec (3.3) - Apr (3.4) = 4 months
Apr (3.4) - Sep (3.5) = 5 months
Sep (3.5) - Dec (3.6) = 3 months
If September's release had been in late August then it would be consistently 4 months, so I'd guess one in April (3.7) and maybe another one in Aug/Sep (3.8) depending on whether they go for the beginning or end of the second half for 4.0. A bit less than quarterly.

I believe the majority in his post wasn't defined because we don't know what the majority wants.
Anyone who claims to speak for the majority (either directly or by calling the opposition a minority) ought to be ignored. I acknowledge that the OL's wording with regards to "the community" is problematic but I don't believe it's their intent to speak for all of us as evidenced by their closing request:

"If you are a member of the community and want to show your support for these requests to frontier, please visit this petition and sign it..."

They should absolutely have spoken less of "the community" and more along the lines of "this is how we feel and we've noticed a significant number of our peers/supporters/general Elite folk feeling the same way so let's see how widespread this is".

I could beat everyone up who tries to attack the OP for "speaking for the community" instead of dealing with the problems he is trying to emphasize.

First, as I said earlier I absolutely do agree that PP needs improvements (which doesn't mean I want it to be OO!!! ;)). I believe the last official reply to you was from Zac one year ago:

"Hey Rubbernuke,
Sorry for the delay in replying, I know you're keen to hear about the Powerplay details.
The focused feedback thread was always meant to be exploring content and measure on certain hot topic questions. It was never confirmed as a Q4 update, although I can understand why you're asking if it will make it in. Sadly for all the reasons being discussed in the thread above, this also isn't an area that will make it into the Chapter Four update.
I know your history as a mega Powerplay dude of awesomeness, but I think it best to be as open as possible. I hope you understand."

And:
"It's certainly something that the team were keen to add to the game, which is why there was the initial discussion. The intent is there so it may well feature in the future of Elite. I don't want to appear dismissive because I'm certainly not. I fully understand how passionate yourself and the other PP leaders are so I understand what the content means to the PP community. I know you put in many hours to care for and support those communities which is why it's important to be as open as possible now, to avoid disappointment later down the line."

For me that reads like they would still like to improve PP, but if anything it will come sometime in the future. While I understand that it's frustating, it absolutely is communication. It's just not the message you want to hear.

But its an empty gesture, because it does not fix the issue- not that Zac could do anything, because he is simply orating what the dev team have said.

"The intent is there so it may well feature in the future of Elite"

Remember that this was preceded by the most radical potential overhaul of Powerplay since its conception, to an ever dwindling audience begging for updates to stop rampant problems. Its jangling that carrot, and then taking it away saying you may see it again. Or, you might not. Next year it will be five years of nothing substantial, and 1.5 years since FD got serious about it with the feedback. Also remember these changes are about a quarter of the content of April in real terms- which tells you how large these proposed PP changes are to begin with.

So your issue is not communication but action.
