[Video] Open letter from community to Elite Dangerous

For 5 years without an update. Do you think people are allowed to be unhappy about that? And why would it count as WIP? I think I've just made a brilliant reply, I'll award myself 7 points for that.

Me 7:2 Tottenham Stigbob

You told me it was a work in progress, I don't give a fig about PP remember.

I also seem to remember FDEV saying that underused features would not be developed further. Maybe everyone else got their special shields and just moved on.

Still 2-0.

Elite is many things to many people,to you it’s PP.
It’s never interested me and i’m sure I’m not alone. And you say that PP has lost players.
It certainly sounds like something that shouldn’t be a priority.

Its nice to know you share the total failure in logic about a social feature that has to be popular to keep working- that needs continual tweaking to keep people coming in. You also seem to forget that the entire game has been updated bar PP and CQC. Sure, it should not be a priority as it is a niche feature, but even then it should get something after five years- the proposed changes are tiny in actual work terms, unless PP is spaghetti code.

The thing that bugs me personally is this closed group fdev have with content creaters or groups. Even though this petition was created by the content creators they do not touch on the legacy issues like combat logging or the grind for engineering. There are hundreds of factions fdev could do streams with but they choose to do the same groups.

You misunderstand the difference between a feature being an intrinsic part of another feature allowing greater breadth of the latter, and a feature merely being accessible. Fleet Carriers were promised as an intrinsic part of Squadrons, allowing greater squadron gameplay and interaction. This was changed and such gameplay is now not possible via carriers. I theory crafted nothing. Were you at FX17 and hear them announced? Did you speak with the devs as I did?
In 2017 we actually knew less about carriers than we do now.

I don't do PP or follow it so you'll have to dig up the dev quote and then I'll be happy to explain phrases like "we plan" and "hopefully" to you.

If you can find a 1.0 Powerplay manual it states collapse happens if your power does not expand enough. But, after a few weeks it was obvious it never made it, and FD later thought about it a bit more and did a proposal for it.

Is it reasonable that something so complicated as Powerplay should be properly thought out and tested before its released, so that its robust enough to last five years of nothing? Rather than "hopefully" having a feature "we plan" to work, why not actually do something about it before shoe horning in other half baked stuff like Galnet Audio, multicrew and so on?

Ah, yes. The chosen ones.

The whole affair was all rather sickening.

Then why not communicate that "thats it, no more development" rather than drop a massive discussion about updating it? If everything is released as WIP that implies its going to have continual updates because its never finished. Since the feature relies on groups of players to work beyond shopping, doesn't FD owe some sort of explanation as to its future?

A manual with an inaccuracy ?. Surely not.

Mechano used to add them deliberately as a test of character.

The rather obvious answer is: because while you are deeply invested in PP, other people are not. So investing more in PP would have benefited you more, but many others get more enjoyment out of literally anything else. Thats not to say I wouldnt love it if FD gave PP some proper attention, but if you want to know why FD does stuff you dont care about instead of stuff you do care about it is kinda because, you know, other people exist too. :p

And all the people on all the PP related Discords mean nothing to you? It may be shocking, but other people do play Powerplay too. And it still does not provide an answer to those who want to know either to stick around or simply leave.
