[Video] Open letter from community to Elite Dangerous

Their decision we are not worth the hassle tells you everything you need to know about the quality of player testing in past beta's.

I am certanly guilty of that. That doesn't mean that there are not a whole slew of people playing this game that wants to actually help with real beta-testing.

The reason I've seldom reported a bug for Elite is because the bug-reporting is way too tedious and not worth my time (sorry FD).

I have beta-tested a 3D DCC application and it was one click to get an interface where I filled in my name, my email adress (it filled in all info about version of build etc by itself), then a field for a short summary of the bug, and then another field to write down steps to reproduce. Click Send, bug-report done.

Any system worse than that and I am not going to report a bug... unless it actually stops me from playing / using the game / application.

Yes... I am lazy like that... :) but just because I am, doesn't mean others are. FD should, IMHO, have more open betas, because, even if I am just doing the lazy "test new ship" thing... it still adds to serverload, which is something that should be tested as well. So, in a sense, even the lazy people like me, do make a difference in an Open beta. :D

I'll give you one:
Fleet carriers being a Squadrons feature. By that, I don't mean it was a part of the same update but that it was an intrinsic part of the Squadrons feature.

I was there at FX17 when Sandro said "As an extra little treat we're going to allow Squadrons to purchase their own fleet carriers. So these really large vessels, really large dockable vessels are going to act as a mobile base of operations for Squadrons where its members can refuel, rearm and respawn so hopefully it's gonna be quite a bit of fun!"

When FCs finally got announced they were personal not tied to Squadrons. We waited 2 years for the "mobile base of operations" only for it to not happen. Like I said to Will at the time, I'd have been fine with this if we'd been told about this change when the decsion was made but they instead left us in the dark until the announcement.
And that is exactly why they don't talk too much about upcoming features; things and goals change. They can and do change for a myriad of reasons to which many may be things that are none of our concern as it relates to their business model or capabilities. Frontier is not beholden to any of us to explain ANY of their plans or goals. It's nice when they do but it is not necessarily always a good thing. See how Sandros got your hopes up to have them come crashing when it couldn't be implemented or they found another way they thought better suited for their game? Let them make their game....forget this stupid open letter mess and vote....with your wallet. It's the loudest voice you have....

I'd like to see bug reporting to be carried out from within the game.

It would cut down on the hassle, things like version number, system you are in, what you are flying, pc specs could all be automatically added, plus it could automatically attach your log files right at the moment when you experience the bug you are reporting (ok, not all bugs would happen like this, but some would). You'd also be more likely to report if you could do it like this.

So, collectors failing to collect? Right, that's annoying, hit escape, click report bug, fill in a text box, submit, job done.

Hell, it could automatically append a screenshot from your current game screen which would be useful for things like the recent engineering bug.

As usual, any sensible criticism of the game and/or FDev inevitably turns to the same handful of forum warriors derailing the thread with ad hominem and non sequitur. The community is a reflection of its community management, and the community management is very clearly lacking here.
As usual, anything you don't agree with is derailing the thread. Also it seems like 'both sites' (if such a thing exists) relies on ad hominem and non sequitur. Your post is a good example for this.

Stop it, having a reasonable discussion is off topic, derailing and makes you a troll.

It isn't constructive criticism that's the issue, it's the timing of it. Right after people got caught cheating and had their credits wiped. Add the slightly cringey threats to FD into the mix, and you have a cake that tastes very much of salty tears. I amazed some of the so called influencers haven't seen straight through this.

I do not know what you mean by that. Can you please elaborate?
The code for the game is, by Frontier's own admission "complex". Ask Zac to repeat that, if you will.

The limits on the genius Stellar Forge have them painted into a corner, for example. They literally have one string value for every system. Very hard to foresee modifications to that.

That and after FDEV agreed to turn the blue button orange the entitled had a sniff of power and they've gone all in to try to dictate what must happen with ED right now if not sooner.

What's happening now is the slowly dawning realisation that they are just end users who already forked over their cash and rage quit after thousands of hours in game. The only people listening anymore are us up here in the peanut gallery.

This is why I never come here anymore.

Hey man! How are you? Long time since I saw you post here last...

What have you been up to? Welcome back btw! It must have been years... no... months... no... weeks... no... days... no... hours... Yes... hours... since your last post. To me it felt like years... so happy to see you post... again!

Sorry Nerth... I couldn't resist. I am just pulling your leg here... nothing serious. We do agree on some things, we disagree at other things. It doesn't matter. It is just a game, after all. :)

Not really since (as far as I know) there are no intentions to modify stellar forge. Technically (I believe) you are right, it's just pretty meaningless.

Yes they are, they took money in exchange for goods or services. They can supply, provide updates on request to justify any delay or change of plan, or they can allow the customer to back out of the contract by reimbursing them.

Frontier are taking the path of least possible communication to satisfy this, it is disgraceful behaviour.

You got what you paid for. What's new or still to come you haven't paid for. With or without a life time pass.
