[Video] Open letter from community to Elite Dangerous

I have no idea what you are taking about, as always. By big 15 you mean the people who visited FDEV? Who talked about them as the community? And which public feedback do you mean? I wasn't aware such a thing exists. Unless you mean lots of people disagreeing with each other. And what failed to materialise in 3.3? Do you mean fleet carriers?

I thought the "big 15" was a known term to talk about those who visited FD headquarters to get a preview of the 3.3 update, anyways, the feedback I meant was the exploration feedback thread which was announced, then delayed and then cancelled. The "big 15" did give feedback on their visit.

The thing here is that some (I'm almost certain Max Factor did so) claimed that the "big 15"s feedback was a suitable replacement as they represented the community, thus, the feedback they gave was the community's feedback.

I'm I clear now?

It wasn't a request it was a series of demands complete with threats of repercussions.

And also, they are content creators, there to butter their own bread. They don't have the game's best interest at heart, just their own. FDEV could have done a better job with the QA/QC on the September update, yes. But all that would happen if they handed part of the process over to a vocal minority part of the community is that the game will suffer even more pollution and dilution by community input.

<regurgitates popcorn>.

:D S

I'm not making either of those claims.

I'm reminding you (and Ratkacher) that because the majority of a given population are silent, their opinions are unknown. This means that the minority of voices can (and often do) rerpesent the opinions of those who are not expressing them. This is literally how representative government works.
So it's a representative government, except without voting for representatives! Pretty sure that's a totally different thing.

You're just muddying the conversation by breaking it up into "minority" and "majority", your flogging of the term "silent majority" to bend whichever way suits you, and different shades of "community" spiced to convenience. Despite you literally just saying the silent majority is "unknown", you immediately turn around and declare who represents their opinions. You aren't saying anything.

People are perfectly within their rights to take exception to people pretending to represent their opinions, especially when these "representatives" are self-declared and acting exclusively to promote themselves.

Anyone who plays the game is a part of "the community" and a minority trying to speak for the majority are being just a little disingenious, don't you think?

Although I'm not certain the letter indeed represented the majority, how do you know they are the minority? Are you talking about those who agree with it's contents or just those who signed it?

Can we all just agree that we only speak for ourselves and no one knows who is the majority?
This is a *** pointless discussion now.
That is precisely what I have been discussing all along :)
(assuming the reader reads the content rather than reacts emotionally by perceived disagreement...)

Yes, they do.

However, in this case, part of the letter is about asking for better communications from FDev, and I wholeheartedly agree this would be hugely beneficial. And also a permanent test server.

But it's just not about this patch, its about everything that has added up to this point. And we never get listened to. And when we do complain either it's not appropriate or people come out and defend FDEV like they are God's. This patch was just the straw that broke the back.

Yes, that makes more sense. I have to admit that I don't remember what Max did or didn't do.

No, you still don't seem to understand this...

This is the last attempt I'm going to make to explain it. Whether or not this group represents a minority or majority is irrelevant; we don't know what the silent majority think. They could disagree, but they could also agree (there's no universal law that says a minority of voices can't represent a majority of opinion). So neither you nor myself get to claim to be right by virtue of being in one group or the other. What we can do is consider that the community of people behind the petition is large enough to warrant attention by FDev and it's up to FDev--not you--to decide how they choose to respond/react to the criticism.
Well we can say that whatever they think of the open letter, they didn't think enough to come on here to comment on it. How about people just represent their own selves in the matter and stop trying to inflate their complaint, whether valid or not, by including "we the community" remarks. Just do that
Say, "I feel this way", " me and my friends", "our squadron"....I'm in the community and I don't agree with the open letter. Or....I guess I could just do like the "influencers" and say "we the community don't agree with it" since I know many who dont. But that would be wrong, because I don't represent the community. I know others agree with me and disagree with me.

nothing personal against yamiks but his opinion doesn't weigh much to me. He is very narrow in his gameplay and isn't interested in certain parts of the game as others are. That's fine too. He's not a miner, doesn't fool with the bgs, isn't a trader or an explorer..he mostly focuses on being a comedian at the expense of the game. And that's fine if that's the gig he chooses.....but he doesn't get to speak for me. why would I listen to the court jester? I'm sure he's a nice guy but his opinion doesn't weigh much with me. Plenty of other content providers who DO take an interest in MANY aspects of the game who weren't on the list. I won't list any names because apparently they don't want to be associated with this nonsense or they would have commented.

Fdev gives us free stuff for three years now. We're entitled to exactly nothing and should be more thankful.
Are you kidding? Don´t know about you, but I paid 60 bucks for the DLC, which included four expansions. I even paid extra to get access to beta testing btw, which hasnt happened since... well I cant remember, sorry

Tell you what, let's settle this dispute of the majority: People who want FDev to keep things exactly as they are, make your own petition on that site or another and see how many sign it.

Exactly this. I've said this elsewhere today but: remember how the NMS fanbase bought that advertisement board outside Hello Games offices? To say thank you we are so happy? What has this enormous "Elite is flawless" community done so far?

And yet, it's so easy to be self centered enough to blame a group of people who've made the effort to clearly but politely voice their concerns. And yes, the almost 3000 people who signed it so far are a community, thank you very much.

I'm going to assume at this point that you're just being obtuse and your goal is to keep going around and around:

Have at it, but I've gotten nauseous so I'm gonna hop off.

FDEV may have decided on a different 15 now. I predict future meltdowns.
