[Video] Open letter from community to Elite Dangerous

Frontier has a long proven history of starting with a sound mechanical concept, flopping out a poorly realized release and then ultimately abandoning further development of the piece in question because "no one is really using it." It's one of the reasons I stopped subscribing to the hype train a long time ago.
I'm mostly in "bemused onlooker" mode at this point, but it's a puzzle nonetheless.

I've played for over 6000 hours and I've never done any grinding, I've just played the game and had fun. Whilst we are currently going through a blip with regards to bugs at the moment, I can honestly say I've had my money's worth out of this game and this blip won't stop me from continuing to play and enjoying the game.
So, if you work in IT, you have never experienced data loss...

Sure..... Thousands of Customers reporting the same (at times game-breaking) issues within Minutes after Release.... is just "Anecdotal" lol

Sorry, that sounds (just a general statement) almost delusional to the point of being downright bizarre.
The general condition this title was in ever since the untested September Update requires no comment really. It speaks for itself.

Not really. Your "thousands" figures are just flawed because in no way they represent an accurate picture of the state of the game and much less the overall perception of all players. It is as flawed as the title of the petition referring to the "community".

If the actual overall state of the game was as "game broken" as you suggest you would have seen at the very least some factual indications of unusual and clearly localized concurrency drops that we can tie to this update. But so far there is no such indication. Further you have the testimony of many commanders in this thread and others in this same forum suggesting the situation is not as game breaking at all.

Another example: Who are we to believe? The 50 upvotes this thread Open Letter OP got? Or the 73 upvotes this other thread "Open Letter" OP got?

etc.

I mean, we can spend another 100 pages bringing in examples for each argument if you wish. The conversation would be fruitless. The only real bottom line that would confirm the game is significantly broken or not in actuality would be some factual indicators such as actual player concurrency droping due to inability to play or frustration etc. Or sales droping, or similar. Are there bugs? Sure. Is the game "broken" due to those? Not at all, at least so far. Claiming "the game is broken" is just noise, and personal perceptions and agendas, including the ones in this thread linked Open Letter.

Fair enough :) When did Braben's space legs video come out? I always thought that was a part of the original vision.

No idea, I don't watch the video's.

I know he said things like "it would be cool if" and "we would like to" all under caveat of "if its technically feasible". But I only know that as a result of people posting clips/links of it and me explaining the context to them beyond the single sentence they were focussed on.

That pretty much sums it up for me.

The game as it stands is looking more and more like discarded heap of half built and/or broken toys coming in mismatched styles.

Even then, the last patch exceeded my expectations in terms of QA mediocrity.

Thank god that exploration is still good :)

Don't get me wrong, I had great times in that game and audio design is second to none.
But the longer it goes, the harder it is not to see the rotten wood beneath the aging shiny paint.

Servers back up after the mission board and passenger fix, fourth hotfix since the patch ?.

This must somehow prove they don't listen or care about the game.

Whilst space legs is not my most wanted feature in ED, the fact is space legs or derivatives of WAS a feature used to sell copies of the LTP and as such it is disingenuous to claim it wasnt on the roadmap from close to day 1
Got any links?
I can't remember space legs being in any roadmap or used to sell anything...I could be wrong...but I've simply not seen any material 1st hand that says this.

This is from the kickstarter FAQ, it puts space-feet firmly in the future potential DLC bracket :

Can I leave the space ship?

Yes, but not in the initial release. The core release of the game focusses on the ships and space. We'll then be working to expand the game. This includes exploring your ship and space stations. The potential content for Elite is huge,so we're keeping a sensible strategy to add to the game in stages.
