[Video] Open letter from community to Elite Dangerous

I dare say that Elite: Dangerous has become poster boy for why this "early access 10 year development plan" business model just isn't a viable product for the consumer.

Sure, developers get funding here and now, but the strain on the original build from multiple added code patches ends up choking the host.

As in "the good old days", I much prefer games that are released as a finished product.

As an Elite fanboy I was happy to help fund Dangerous as a premium beta backer, but I will never again throw credits at these "early access" products because of the pitfalls showcased by Elite: Dangerous.

and let's not discuss the money grabbing abomination that is SC. Talk about preying on the gullible.
On the other hand, this game is the buggiest mess I ever played over 3000 hours in.
No other buggy mess could keep me playing (and spending money on it) as long as Elite.
Not even close.

Indeed, even in it's current state I still want to play ED....go figure.

Any other game in a similar state would have been binned and forgotten long ago, but I keep coming back and for the most part enjoying it. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for the link!
Well shoot me down with a dumbfire! I honestly missed that all those years ago :)
Technically they have not gone against their word and also technically the only people who could honestly complain about this not being in yet are kickstarter backers :)

They could (lol they already do), however the word potential would need to be clarified for them. Repeatedly I'd imagine if it doesn't come to pass.

There's buggy as in fallout 4 having to constantly walk between your settlements to fix the beds allocation bug or they get attacked in hardcore with only three vertibird signal grenades left and limited fusion cores.

Then there's ED buggy which means having to press 4 twice to clear a mission menu softlock or skip remote engineering for a day.

Even at it's worst ED is still playable and in an entirely superior bugginess league.

The timescale i would set would simply be "reasonable" and the way the game is structured it isn't.
But your interpretation of reasonable and someone else's may be at odds... a bit like 'normal' really :)

I've found my 'targets' have been realised in a reasonable time, but others may consider the 'wait' to be unreasonable :)

Everything after the last Zac post is superfluous.

The only reason its still open is to keep the usual voices shouting at each other in one thread instead of eight threads.

Shhh 🤫.

Hotel California ran for years before the denizens twigged on to that.

Given you don't PvP, that's not a surprise.

I do PVP just without the grind and the chest-thumping.
