Surely the lack of beta testing is part of the problem, therefore is sorely needed imho. A lot of this nonsense with the last two patches would have been picked up, instead of them having to release yet another patch to fix their mistakes
as it is, the only difference between beta or no beta is where possible screw ups happen: in the beta db or the live production one. while that's still a huge risk (see the messy patch for the fertilizer party) and playing it safe is essentially a good idea, it is far from 'the solution' to the current state.
see, when an update that adds no functionality screws up several different subsystems it simply means that the difference between "how this is supposed to work" and "how it really works" is too large. a new ui element completely screwing up an interface that then takes weeks of 'intensive effort' not even to fix but to workaround ... this just means a scary lack of control of the project's management over the project. they thought this was ready to release but these kinds of bugs shouldn't even make it to a beta! they live in an imaginary world, so to speak, and need to come down to reality (*). there is a lot to change to address this lack of coordination and forethought, and little of it should be even interesting for players. beta testing won't help there, that would be just the icing on the cake. asking for beta is not productive, asking for quality is. let them sort out how.
(*) or they will simply carry on, that's another very real possibility i contemplate. i'll enjoy the forum for sure!
