The ADS

Open Letters are the thing these days. Although Open Wound would be more descriptive :)

I have had experience with trying to nudge FDev one way or another (I'm gonna find you, I'm gonna getcha, getcha, getcha, getcha) without any luck. As I said before, I have given up on going back to Elite exploration a long time ago. This is the state of exploration, and this will be it for years to come.

Other games are available :)

For instance, right now Surviving Mars is looking pretty Green.
Oh no! Now I'll have to look at that!

Hate you, Ziggy!!!

(not really)

I wonder if I could grab this thread by the ears and drag it back? Browsing above, I see remarks about chasing blue blobs and I wonder if some of the problems would be solved by a better appreciation of how the FSS works:

Don't chase blue blobs!
Look at the tuner bar. Only things in the right-hand half are valuable. If there are none, jump.
Tune to a gas giant. It will almost certainly be near the orbital plane. Scan along the orbital-plane line to find it.
The number of prongs on the indicator for a gas giant shows which class it is.
Similarly for things just right-of-centre, which are ELWs, WWs, etc.
If you find one you want to map, use the key bind you've chosen to select it before exitting FSS.

I never understood the use of the word chase, its not like they are running away from you. Search yes, but I doubt that is a word some would want to use as it isn't derogatory enough.

I think I will be playing a bit of RDR2 when it comes to the PC.

Yeah me too and many others i expect. And the rabble on the forums will calm down and fdev will probably breath a sigh of releif that its all over. But its not good really is it? Cause people will have lost interest in ED (again) and they play RDR2 and if it lives up to itself they will play for a long time....and christmas rolls round and hey look! ED...paid expansion...is the ADS back yet? No? Then i dont care.

I doubt they will care as long as the player numbers stay up, which they seem to be.

I never said I was going to stop playing ED, I still need to get back to the bubble at some point in time for the next big expansion.

It's entirely up to you whether you care or not. Hopefully they will add some QoL updates to the FSS to make it an all round better experience that can cater to other types of explorers.

Seems to me that people really only care about what they want and not the game as a whole. The FSS connects areas of the game together such as USS's, mining and exploration. I can see that expanding in the future too. The ADS is a deadend mechanic, so I very much doubt it will come back in any shape or form.

Think of ways to improve the FSS instead of hoping for something that is likely not going to happen is my advice, take it or leave it though. But then again you have never used the FSS so you would have no idea how to make it better anyway.

ED is a dead end game tho isnt it? Only the hype for carriers is keeping anybody interested right now and for all the talk of carrier threads, well there wasnt really that many was there. There is no buzz of excitement round here that i can detect. Fdev being a little more flexable with the ADS surely couldnt do any harm.

What do you mean by a dead end game?

Really, you got some citation for that? Have you gone around and asked everyone personally what keeps them flying. Nope. This is just a baseless assumption.

Do you get excited about ED anymore? Are you really really looking forward to carriers or is it just... meh. The galaxy was the most interesting bit of this game and they FSSed that. So unless you are a PVPer or particulalry enjoy shooting thargoids.... or really like long backwards and forwards crdit grinds, then whats ED really got left to offer and excite?

No max, i didnt ask anybody. Thats why i wrote "that i can detect" Where is the carrier buzz? Is there even an advert anywhere outside of Fdevs pages?

I really am not interested in having a carrier and never was but I am really looking forward to playing again in a few days time. What does it have to offer, much more then what you are saying there is. As I am in the middle of nowhere I am thoroughly enjoying exploring systems and planets. When I get back to the bubble, I will carry on with the BGS work for my chosen faction, which I also really enjoy. I do not participate in PvP and have done no thargoid shooting, but I may give it a go when I get back and I will also have a look at some of the guardian site to get a guardian hybrid SLF. There is plenty for me to look forward to.

Have you not seen all the posts about carriers? There have been tons of them. But the buzz has gotten quiet because we are waiting for more information.

See now thats unfair to throw at somebody who used to fly around using the ADS. We used to make our own entertainment and then it was taken away.
For 4 years we've been filling in the blanks of the gameplay based on the ADS. I was hoping that the part that comes after the ADS would have been fleshed out.

Now the FSS is a starting point, and in my opinion it's a poor starting point, since you're forced to be halfway down the road as a starting point. No longer do I have the option to decide in seconds whether I am going to be spending some time in a system. I need to spend some time in a system to determine whether I want to spend some time in a system.

That just doesn't work for me. Shame.

Yup. But the FSS can also be fun/interesting, you just need to discover that yourself. But you haven't tried yet, so you will never find out.

I still maintain that the longer one used it the worse it becomes until the player reaches a point of not being able to stand the thing any more. Some hardy individuals will soldier on but many will simply give up. It is a short coming in the design of the thing that to me appeared blatently obvious right from the start. Im actually suprised and a little disapointed that more people arnt moaning about it at this point in time.

I open the FSS and look at the wave forms, the amount, they type etc to give me that idea. Sometimes it ends up not what I want or not that interesting, but sometimes I find something that looking at the system map wouldn't show me. It swings in roundabouts.

After I resolve what I want to resolve, I either fly around to resolve the rest, fly to the interesting parts, explore planets etc.

You can still explore in a similar way, not exactly the same though as you need to throttle down to open the FSS to see the wave forms. That is why I want to have the wave forms in analysis mode, so we can decide after a honk whether we want to open the FSS and discover more about what we are seeing or not.
