Nickname in the forum and in the game

You're on PS4, yes? These strange names don't surprise me on console, but it baffles me when I see them on PC where spaces are allowed in our name.
Nah, this is not my ingame nick, it's just a sarcasm around reasons players choose their nicks.
As for spaces in names (filenames, whatever names which pass through computers), it is historically better to have "_" instead of " " due to many reasons, mainly because it produces less problems.

You met me recently Old Duck, you were in a T-7, I was in a mission running Python.

There is very little overlap between people I know on the forum & in-game, but there is a bit of cross-over, mostly from random chance as it was when we met.
I don't even remember this - are you "you" in game? Though sometimes I look at my history and see people in the list that I don't recall "meeting" (I suspect they come and go from the station when I'm in outfitting, for example).

Used to have the same name as in game.

Changed it, as I also use that name elsewhere and this forum was bringing up more search results than anywhere else... And I felt a bit sad.

I o7'd you (as I do with any player I meet) as we both approached a station orbiting a gas giant - I don't recall the system, it was somewhere near GD 140 I think.

You then immediately took evasive action having presumably not spotted me (ctrl-B is your friend) until I hailed you, I then responded "I am not a threat to you" and you returned to your previous heading. I said "I am Riverside", sent you a friend request (which you accepted) & you eventually sent me an o7 in return.

It was not a deep & meaningful meeting, it was rare though ;)

Perhaps there are others you have met & simply don't remember?

Out of the hundreds/thousands of Cmdrs I've encountered, I've recognised maybe three forum names. Sure, some people will have different forum/game IDs, but it does drive home how numerically insignificant the vocal forumites are in the grander scheme of things.

@Speedcuffs... Ray Gateway is it?

I see what happened now. A senile moment perhaps, but not one of forgetfulness. I don't think I saw your "I am Riverside" message, but I see a MALCRIVERSIDE in my friends list, and I've seen you often on my Comms menu. Here's the senile part - my brain did not separate the "riverside" from MALCRIVERSIDE. Your name was hiding there in plain sight all this time!

I also recently learned I'm friends with someone else on the forum, but their CMDR name is radically different than their forum nickname. They even got a screenshot of me in my Dolphin! That's how I put two and two together, as I remember this CMDR "eyeballing" me, so when I saw the shot, I knew exactly who (in game) took it.
