if you own another ship its location should show up in the galactic map
You get the extra option to buy the Cobra Mk IV, like any other ship. As far as I know it is not simply given to you.
Just look for a shipyard that has it.

If you have access to it then you can buy it in a relevant shipyard. It is not a "free ship" sitting somewhere, it is just a type of ship which can only be purchased by qualifying accounts.

It's a great ship in the right hands and the right usage.
It used to bother me as a PS4 player that we had no access to it, until I read stuff like this pretty much everywhere. Still, more ships are always nice

Why would you want to mine in a Cobra mk4, when a T6 is cheaper, faster, can jump further and can carry a lot more cargo? One trip that takes about 40 minutes gets you enough for a T7, which is loads better than either, so how long are you going to be in the Cobra?It's a much, much better ship for mining.

Loads of reasons.. Why use a T6 when you can mine in a Python? Or a Vette or a Sidewinder?

Fair point - I was answering a comment regarding the MkIII being better than the MkIV though.
When you're new, one trip in the Sidewinder gets you enough for a T6. One trip in the T6 gets you enough for a T7. One trip in the T7 gets enough for a T9. nobody would want to make a career of mining in a T6, it's just a stepping stone. Can you give your "loads of reasons? I'm interested to know what they are because I can't think of any, so I need to fill this gap in my knowledge.

cobra 4 stats are actually quite ok except for engine which is hilariously bad and really weird. it's the slowest of the small ships, only the top classic bricks are slower. it inherited the flat engine profile of the cobra 3 but got such a big speed cap nerf that makes it simply ridiculous, plus the turning profile of a viper. in short: the poor thing can barely move. the price of exclusivity, i guess ...
as a compensation, frontier should balance it so it can have 2 paintjobs applied simultaneously.

That's OK, but OP was wondering if he was missing something by not having the Cobra mk4. The point is that there are better alternatives for nearly everything you can do with it. When the game was first released, it was a good solution to a cheap multi-role ship. Credits were hard to come by and you tended to keep your ship for much longer. Now, no matter what you want to do, there's a relatively fast route to the ideal ship.

just stick to the mkIII a great ship mine makes a classic frontier II amiga jump sound thanks to timing a VA playsound command
