I managed to get in game twice once on open and once on solo for a few mins before it crashed back to the main menu with a server error.

Looked good from what I actually saw

Yes, because I did the same and still had same problems.

Confirmed not to work. Got to spinning ship and then dumped out as not connected.

Anybody got a possible fix? Hell I'll put a wedge of cheese in my disk drive it it'll let me play some elite.

Black Screens

The file I saw on my computer was that it was a 32 operating system file downloading. My computer uses 64. Maybe that could be the problem with black screens?

lol Apparently my client it too old to play online and both too old and too new to play the tutorials... I lie tutorials do launch in the end... just reading back to see if there's a solution

I also got the 'too old client' message, so I left it there to read around here & when I got back the message had gone & I could at least attempt to log in

No, Elite runs as 32bit

Is this helping anyone? Would like to know for feedback to the team.

After validating files and clearing save game:

I still get a black screen when I try to start anything other than the tutorials. One time I saw a blue box appear after the spinning ship disappeared, and one time I got a connection error dialog, but regardless, every time I lock a second or two after trying to start and have to kill the process externally.

64bit systems can run 32bit files, but 32bit systems cannot run 64bit files.

The ED client has always been 32-bit only.

Yes, I found this too, if you just sit there, eventually it connects, varying degrees of time though.

Yup. Leave it for a minute or too and it connects. Weird...

*Edit* Spoke too soon - connected to server, but 'Start' just went red.

click your name then verify game files, doesn't fix anything tho.

It actually did to me. At least I can connect to server again. And Play button is no longer red.

validating file versions worked for me

ok so when I said worked I should have said "I no longer get that error", I still can't play online though... I can connect, but then get disconnected from the server...

Guess I'll take the dog for a walk
