ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

Yes.

As I said- the oculus is correctly configured.

The only thing i`m not using is headphones connected to oculus as i`m using surround system instead.

Oculus is working fine with all the demos and cineveo, though not working with Elite.

When you say "the oculus is configured correctly" do you mean in general, or within Elite?

Are you on latest runtime, firmware, graphics drivers? If it's all configured properly as you say then it should jfw.

Does anybody know how to use the system-map (not the galaxy-map) with OR?

Only thing i see is a big planet in front of me... no way to navigate or something...

Does anybody can help or is the system-map not "OR-Ready"?

I cannot get the dk2 to work.
I am:
  • Using SDK 0.4.2 and the firmware from it
  • The display mode is extended
  • The service is running, I restarted it just to be sure

When I click play I see a quick blink of black in the oculus, then it returns to show me my desktop background. My pc screen shows the frontier logo and the Oculus warning screen, when I click ok there, I get to the menu etc. but its not shown in the dk2, only on the pc screen.
The tracking works, when I move the rift stuff moves accordingly, so the "only" problem is that everything is shown on the wrong screen.

I have tried to make the oculus my main screen and also to drag the elite window to the rift screen. It still only starts on the pc screen.

Any suggestions?

It was definitely banjaxed last night, but that was for everybody.

The keys around WASD on the keyboard typically let you rotate and translate the view, there should be a little reticle that lets you select systems to get information about the planet, but that was missing from the galmap and showing up in cockpit view for me last night.

I believe you can set up your HOTAS to manipulate the map, so that's an option, personally, I'd love to get my spaceNavigator (a 3d mouse) to control it, but that has it's own problems.

You've tried switching the display monitor in the graphics options from primary->secondary->tertiary without any luck?

For me, the rift shows up as my secondary display, it should match the assigned screen number in the NVidia display dialog.

Are you in extended mode on the rift?

In your graphics options in game are you selecting "secondary" monitor with 1080p resolution and oculus rift mode under 3d settings? The game should then render on the rift and leave your monitor showing your desktop...

Apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs!

I tried the keys, but nothing moves or do something!

Can anybody with OR try the system-map and tell me if WASD or any other keys let you move or rotate or do something in the system-map?

Thanks!

Hmm, check your key bindings under the controls menu (galaxy map bindings are right at the bottom).

I only received my DK2 a few days ago so didn't get much play time before BETA 2, but had no trouble running the game before or after the patch. I get a fair bit of stuttering while looking around but as I understand it is because my GTX670 is struggling to run the game at 75 FPS.

Also what I am seeing is that everything (text/UI elements) are kind of covered in orange pixels... Is this the chromatic aberration that keeps getting mentioned? Or is it something else and can anything be done about it?

I checked my bindings and the Galaxy-Map worked fine.
I am talking about the System-Map.
Here is no way to move or something like that...

Can anybody realy confirm that he can navigate/move/select in the System-Map with OR?

i believe some have said the system map is bugged in the rift ATM.

certainly i cant figure out how to use it.

in other VR news....

I am trying to decide how best to control the galaxy map.

I fly with an X55 but am currently using an xbox pad for the map. does anyone have any better suggestions on how they use the map in vr?

taaa

Ah whoops, that's what I get for reading too quickly after too much coffee, sorry about that.

I'm planning on rejiggering my SpaceNavigator 3d mouse to work with the Galaxy Map but it's a bit of a faff, hopefully Frontier will introduce native support at some point.

Once it works though, it should let you control all 6 degrees of motion with one hand.

Hi,
Sorry if this is a red herring, but I've read a lot of people complaining that Beta 2 UI is difficult to read due to a kind of orange blur. Not sure if that's the same thing you are referring too? If yes others have recommended turning off 'Bloom' under the graphics menu appears to fix it for them.

Anybody else having problems maintaining 75fps in this build?

I'm having to use Low settings with 2.01 when I was using High with 1.06...!?

Using a 780ti, i7 4770K at 4.4 and latest drivers, SDK etc.

Head tracking is not working fully for me now :(

It doesn't track side to side and front/back movement of the head, although it still tracks the rotation. Also there is something wrong with Gamma settings now. Everything looks a bit blown out, the blacks aren't black but greyish.

This is still Beta so personally I don't mind problems. Just in case others see it ..... to my knowledge I've kept the same client Beta 2.01 and initially was working. For a short period was seeing 'Client too new' so could not start. Then it worked again. Now it's saying 'Client too old' so won't start again.

Someone suggested on the launcher if you click on your email top right you get more options 'Check for Game Updates' and 'Validate Game Files' etc. Tried both these without success. My gut feeling is it's not a local issue - the release/servers have gone a bit pear shaped and they are working hard to fix it. I'll probably chill out and try again in the morning. There is a slight irony that the 'Quit' button doesn't work.

*UPDATE : Oh no I fell for the 'one more try' and now it says upgrading! Beta 2.02?
... Yes now says Beta 2.02 the little voice in my head says 'step away from the computer' :p
