I am well and truly doomed. LOL
I followed your lead and picked up Stellaris on steam for $10.00. My wife saw me looking at it and asked if it was co-op, I said no.
She loved Civ and Masters of Orion in co-op.
She comes in later with another mouse and sez. I know how we can play together. Hook up this other mouse.
NOW she can sit at the desk beside me and be a side seat driver and micro manage.
FIE on you elite players.
I would LOVE if my wife would play this game with me (on a separate computer as a separate race). I got her to play Homeworld once, and that was it... Stronghold II, on the other hand, she enjoyed, at least until I sent assassins to kill all her cattle. I think I was met with a pillow upside the head that day..
Space Engineers base game for $5 <--If you're dying to play an alternate sandbox space game with dedicated space legs for PvE and/or PvP, THIS is the one for you. Especially now that they've added 3 awesome DLC content packs which added amazing custom content and a viable game economy. Regardless of whether you play solo or team up with other players, Space Engineers is a solid alternative to NMS (better graphics IMO)
Wait until Black Friday (Nov 29th the day after Thanksgiving in the US). That's when Steam's discount algorithm loses its collective binary mind
In fact, that should be the only time during the year (besides Christmas) that you should part with your hard earned CAD in your wallet. This time last year, relatively new/early release and/or popular top 100 Steam titles (like ED, Space Engineers, NMS, ETS, etc.) where being offered at big discounts on Steam. Legacy ones like Civ IV were being given away pennies on the dollar (well in the $5 - $10 range). And popular collection edition/bundles the likes of Witcher and Tropico 5 were massively discounted (ie all DLC expansion packs + base game) for under $20. I got Tropico 5 and Cities: Skylines at eye gouging price drops under 50%
In a roundabaout way (destiny 2 led me back to ESO for a bit and that lead to...) I'm playing Skyrim again. Absolutely superb game IMO and one of the best games I've ever played (Mods make it SO much better as well). I'm not using fast travel (just the horse and cart system), not using health regen (although that makes werewolfs a PITA) and I've disabled the compass so I have to use my eyes to find thing. Sodding fantastic game.......although I'm really looking forward to Skywind and Skyblivion as well.

I'd dare to say that without mods, Skyrim is actually not a very good game. Mediocre at best. Bethesda have lost their drive after Morrowind. (Fallouts are a bit better but TES games have deteriorated horribly)
It's ONLY the modders who make their games great.

Are you using these? If not these are highly recommended aka mandatory for the serious Skyrim disciple. Your Dovakin will love (and hate you) for installing them!
USSEP - This is Arthmoor's mod for base game and all DLC combined. MANDATORY to fix all the vanilla engine bugs Bethesda couldn't be bothered with addressing
Real Needs & Diseases - USSEP version (ie RND) Adds ability to eat both vanilla AND custom foods (with compatible patches) Basically treats food as having real nutritional value instead of the generic potion Bethesda classified them as. Also adds disease system which impairs health if you don't eat/sleep regularly.
You said you don't fast travel (which is the only way to go IMO). But if you're overburdened with loot from your last dungeon crawl and/or are far way from nearest civilization, consider this
Touring Carriages (the immersive way Bethesda SHOULD have made it for vanilla). You literally ride the cart from point A to B. Can make stops/get off before B for whatever reason i.e. hunting, stopping to eat at a tavern (if you have RND), interact with whatever random worldspace events (like Giant v. Dragon showdown, civil war skirmishes with Stormcloak & Imperial factions etc).
OR this superior overhaul of the carriage FT system:
Adult mod content (which require appropriate filter enabled on Nexus to see them). Best if using non vanilla/fully nude PC and NPC body meshes
OSA & OSex. Yes it's true. Your Dovahkin can have be as romantic/kinky and crazy as they want to be. And have as many explicit X rated (movie quality) sexual relations with any NPC (and/or custom mod NPC) they desire. The animations are all player driven/controlled and range from gentle hugging/kissing to heavy petting to full intercourse. Note these mods need to be installed together. Youtube showcase of mod for vanilla NPC/PC models is here. It's pretty mind blowing what the TES modding community comes up with
Better Males (by Chris57 and FavoredSoul) (Male version of CBBE. Alternative to replace vanilla loin cloth with full bottom nudity for males). This is a texture mod that hasn't yet been ported over to SSE. But using tools like CAO from nexus will update the textures for SSE.
Schlongs of Skyrim (currently censored at Nexusmods due to drama so not linked here). Check Lover's Lab site. Warning: this site contains a lot of taboo adult content that may be deemed offensive)
Took a break from Neverwinter Nights community modules to go on an official modules marathon. The 'OC' (Original Campaign) is actually fairly serviceable once you get past the awful awful intro/tutorial and prison area. SoU, while more linear, has some neat bite-sized sections, and the desert setting was a nice visual change. HotU then felt so-so. It's ok, but it's more linear than the OC, yet the linear bits aren't as flavourful as SoU. Still neat, and bringing the same character from SoU to HotU makes for a cool build by the end of the campaign. Also did Pirates of the Sword Coast, which I picked up at €0.99 collected from various trading card sales. This one is fun. Single self contained module, spanning level 1 to ~11, some creative mechanics and a fun pirate theme. Shortish but good.

I dunno, I loved the original Skyrim. It's better than Oblivion, but yeah Morrowind had the best RPG elements (hoping Skywind can add a lot of them in). Original Skyrim was all about the visuals and even now with only a few graphical mods it looks superb for a 2011 game. I can spend ages just hunting Deer over the plains around Whiterun.

84 active mods here, and still interested in more. On the other hand, I'm purposefully trying to keep my mod list relatively low for the purpose of stability and immersion. Many of my mods are tiny QOL fixes, like allowing lightning to set oil on fire.

For weather I highly recommend Rustic Weathers or Obsidian Weathers. Rainy weathers and storms are so much better than Vivid Weathers or Dolomite... A rainstorm truly makes you run for cover, you almost feel wet. But it's a matter of personal taste.
I also highly recommend you install a lighting replacer mod. Enhanced lighting for ENB is excellent, Realistic lighting overhaul is great too. I prefer the warmer colors of ELE over the colder RLO, but both are excellent choices.
Well that's to be expected if he didn't install the Dev Aveza aka the TES universe version of the Fleet Carrier. Which I personally re-installed in my game for melacholy's sake after learning FC delay until summer next year .

It's true that by TES V, Skyrim ended up being as vast as the ocean and deep as a puddle (increased to swimming pool depth by the PC modding community). But even so, it's highly addictive, high replay value and emergent game play friendly sandbox design continues keeping it LIGHT YEARS ahead of anything Blades and F76 have to offer to date.
