ANNOUNCEMENT Community Update (22/10)

Thread Closed: Not open for further replies.
Each update will also include a public beta that will run prior to the update's release, with a dedicated time to address major issues that appear.

Define public: All players? PC as well as console? I don't know about PS4, but Xbox could really use access to a beta for Elite. The majority of my playing is on Xbox and it is buggy as hell, always has been.

Fixing bugs sounds like a great thing because there countless minor but player facing bugs that just add up to making elite seem like a sloppy or careless effort, and certainly not worth the microtransactions that are offered alongside.

Also please be honest. I've been a fan (yep ill admit it) of elite dangerous from the moment i was first hooked, and while it was earned of frontier developers also. Something i've observed is its complete horror for you guys to publically announce something then go back on your word. You've never recovered from the delaying ice planets and fleet carriers the first time around. So unless this has changed, please just front up and say there were technical issues and it needs more time, wrapping this up in some community thing that many people were not part of is insulting as much as a video game marketing lie can be.

It seems so implausable that you would prevent release of a feature finished and ready to go in a year with zero content because you had a meeting and saw bugs. Obviously fleet carriers need more time.

Community askes for more time put into fixing bugs and getting enhanced beta testing...

Community complains that testing and bug fixing slow down development of new stuffs...

That is a prime example why community in general has no idea how this stuff works...

Keep up the good work FDev o7

Always each customer has their own complains. So company should deal with such a various complain balanced and consistently. If they don't, they will lose each customer at each side. It is a essential ability to manage customer. And it is company's role, not customer.

FDev already delayed Fleet Carrier twice. And alos FDev gave a to CMDRs with ARX. In both issues, CMDRs have right to complain as customers.

I guess that you don't think youself as customer but FDev's employee.

Here we go arguing with two players promoting their positions for the next 200 posts and neither one will accept the position of the other often getting personal about it and hoping a few others support their posts. Welcome to the Frontier Forum and check out other sub forums without the nastiness of the new posts. There are some really amazing people on the Forum including moderators and Devs that don't put up with this posturing. I'm one of them.

Constructive critism should always be looked at objectively and worked through systematically.

But simple whining is not objective or constructive. Especially when they get EXACTLY what they asked for. It's like my youngest complaining that she doesn't want the chocolate cake she got after whining about not getting chocolate cake...

Don't worry. It might be 5:30am but I'm still awake

I just don't want to copy paste and flooding the forum with the same rubbish I posted in another thread, but there are a few questions regarding the recent Annoncement, so here I qoute myself. I was not sure where I should put them first:

Disclaimer: This is no Rant, blackmailing, whiteknighting or whatever. It's just a summary of concerns by some who are dedicated Elite-Commanders.

I'm some kind of areporter in our squadron and as soon I got the announcement in my hands, translated and posted it, the discussion got going.

I want to post the main concerns that was growing in our squadron. Some of my mates are actually working as coders / developers and they fear they discovered some kind of general management-pattern that shows, that FDev is "FAR OFF THEIR SCHEDULE" releasing new content, because they experience the same or similar patterns in their own companies.

Why is it so?

1. They released "New Player Experiences" instead of releasing the announced content, because they are behind schedule (Iceplanet Revamp / FC and even New Era), so they implement, wether intentionally (I SERIOUSLY hope NOT though) or not, some Game-Issues. (The Trigger)

Following up are parts out of the standard management-toolbox

2. Mining salt from the community (The "Open Letter"-Initiative)

3. Using the forementioned community-initiative to disguise their own failure and justifiing the release-delay with: "You asked for bugfixing? Okay...We take you serious and we are concentrating on bugfixing alone, but we have to delay new content."

4. The community is releaved and satisfied that the management took them serious, the managment is satisfied not to fully enrage their costumers.

All in all, as far as we (our squadron) know, FDev is working on Elite Dangerous with, at least, 3 teams. 1 for the "Next Big Thing", 1 for "Fleet Carriers", 1 for "Minor Content-Releases". So why don't they concentrate the third team for bugfixing alone? And why are Fleetcarriers delayed whole SIX MONTHS, despite the fact that a whole Team ALONE is working on them at least a year?

I really LOVE reallife-satire. Foremostly because of the usual Hype-Train-Threads that was rolling all over the forums. Well Played FDev!!! golfclap:ROFLMAO:

I STILL have faith in Elite: Dangerous, because it's really a good product I very much enjoy. I don't want that this jewel will be "sunk into the bin".

Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan: "Help us Obi Wan Kenobi! You are our only hope!"

Only FDEV has this kind of transparency.

You have never heard of Digital Extremes have you? They, straight up, have a DevStream every few days on Twitch and YouTube for Warframe. Plus, the leads twitter accounts are public, the Dev Team makes frequent forum posts, and they take backlash for poorly implemented updates with very public apologies. FDev could learn a lot from DE about communication with the playerbase.

Digital Extremes have been my go-to example for years, their policy is near perfect imo.

I've been playing Elite off and on since last December so it isn't like I'm incredibly dedicated to this game. I enjoy it now and then. I haven't really run into a lot of these bugs, but given what I have seen and read I think this is probably the right move. I saw the open letter and even as a newer player the frustration was really clear to me. This seems like the kind of communication that was being asked for and hopefully it continues in a constructive way. I would like to see new content sooner than late 2020 if that's possible but you can only do so much in a given timeframe. I would really like to encourage the dev team to follow through on this stuff though or it's going to look to many as if you are just holding content hostage to a heartfelt community letter. I am not suggesting that is the case, but you really need to follow through openly to prevent those appearances from becoming a reality.

Apart from delaying FCs, people do realise that by asking for bug fixes FD will introduce new ones. Bearing this in mind, will that mean we'll never see FCs or other content until 202X? Wouldn't it have been better to release FCs then bug fix? :)

Noop, customers are not EXPERT. They were annoying oranges and they will be annoying oranges... and I were and will be, too. Company must understand contexts from annoying oranges. If a customer manager said like you, that company will start to lose thier customers.

And It is FDev who had made bugs not CMDRs. And It is FDev who had promied and delayed Fleet Carrier not CMDRs. But... I think that you still feel like "CMDRs; customers, screwed up everything."

This is the community stomping their little feet and pouting their lips. I think FDev were on track to address the issues and release the FCs on time, but people were so virulent and ignorant, Fdev is having to try and placate them. That takes time and resources away from bug fixes and development.

Double edged sword for elite dangerous isn’t it? What about a not exactly bad game that’s a live service with dreams and hopes of things getting better?
I think maybe Elite Dangerous is gonna be bad forever. They released incomplete and have been trying to patch in the rest of the game ever since. What we now know after X many years is that you can’t do this and make it work.
