My Dolphin Taxi

Yeah but that's because of the modularity. Many ships are unbalanced. It would be easier and better to have ships dedicated to specific roles instead. This would solve a lot of contraddictions.
that ship sailed on every ship introduction, so all i'm asking is to open modularity to all to make it balanced, its unlikely to go the other way into specific ships for specific roles, and this mess of a half way house isnt constructive

The Dolphin totally excels for me how I use it. Other players suggest play styles such as mining that it wasn't designed for. Not to say that it cannot be done but is a waste versus using the best ship for mining. For those not too serious about mining and more about making an engineer happy I suggest the Python. Meanwhile a Dolphin used correctly can make life in the ED universe a lot easier. It is a keeper whether new to the game or have been playing it for years. Just my opinion of course.

Actually the dolphin is great at everything you can make ot do except combat

I had a Dolphin as a bubble taxi for a while... but it just runs way too hot. I became disillusioned with it. (My passenger-build Dolphin meanwhile is Midnight Black, as a proper taxi should be...)

I'm now strongly considering using a Cobra Mk. III in the same 'bubble taxi' role, because the jump range is okay and it's quite ridiculously cheap to tow around...

Yes, my max engineered Dolphin runs at about 41 percent heat. My engineered Python hits 30 percent if I wait long enough. It is not fair. But engaging the FSD neither one goes over 62 percent. Given the abilities of a Dolphin used at the right time and place I can live with the heat. With two efficient beams with thermal vent and amazing maneuverability I can drop the heat to zero if needed without taking incoming fire. It is not a combat ship but could upset a few CMDRs while it gets away. Being so fast the combat issue has never come up even in Open play. Maybe I'm too small and fast for the griefers to bother with me. I'm an insect on their windshield.

True enough, but I find the heat profile of a bubble taxi quite important when it comes to ease of fuel scooping - it's why I also used a DBX for a while, that thing will only overheat if you actually rub your face into the star. And then engage the FSD.

The weakness of the Diamondback Explorer is that it has a class 5 fuel tank but can only install a class 4 module. Generally speaking if you have a class 5 fuel tank you want a class 6 fuel scoop for the most efficient results. Thus the DBX can travel the galaxy but double the time with a class 4 fuel scoop. Then again DBX pilots aren't too worried about time given all the other explorer advantages with the ship.

The Dolphin has a class 4 fuel tank so the math says that it needs a class 5 fuel scoop. But the Devs were sneaky with this one as it is not as efficient as other ships in the game. It can get heat warnings past 80 percent heat while scooping the next star. Sometimes I hate the Devs. Is this by design or a bug? Hard to know. Given such a small ship with a class 4 fuel tank maybe it is by design. A larger Fer de Lance by 110 tons only has a class 3 fuel tank.

My dolphin is my go to ship for long range travel or just general messing about. I'll have g5 engines soon but I haven't bothered messing about with guardian stuff yet.

Misread your ship name and thought you'd called it Northern Rail! Poor thing, no ship deserves that (anyone in the north of England will understand)!

Nice looking little ship, like the build. Have to say I like threads like this that remind me of the ships I haven't tried yet.
