Potential CG

A potential galactic disaster caused by a super nova. Populations require rescue as the destabilisation on a planetary scale is having a chain reaction as more planets go supernova. Risk to rescue ships Radiation , thargoid intervention as they view the opportunity to rid the scourge of humanity in their systems. Large meteors randomly hitting systems due to the super novas which need to be destroyed. There will need to be a command structure put in place with wings and singleton missions in the CG. Just a thought to bring the community together.. 😃

I would exclude nothing... everything is possible... traction beams to move meteors from the path of a planet... landing on meteors to plant small seismic charges... 😁

Maybe CG rewards could be paid in precious gems? And you'd need galactic hyperdrive to complete the rescue. Right On Commander!

A supernova would take a number of years after going nova to actually have any effect. A bare minimum time would be the distance in light years to the given system, a solar system 10 LY from the supernova would only see the supernova 10 years after the nova happened. Planets cannot go supernova. Supernova do not trigger meteors showers as far as we know.

Not to rain on your parade, but we need to keep a level of plausibility here. :)

To be more of a damp squib I'd also add that I think you'd have a reasonably good idea of if a star was going to go nova and have plenty of time to evacuate before things kicked off or not settle there in the first place.

These are reasonably well understood processes now so I'd expect an interstellar civilization to have a far better idea...

Then again, people live on volcanoes and get caught out so, you know...

Could go with a 'what were they thinking' angle or a 'enemy action caused it' sort of angle - the later perhaps being overshadowed by everyone scrabbling to stop it happening again.
That could get a bit exciting hey, stop this local thargoid incursion or you lose the whole system permanently with rolling localised destruction over a period of years.. Gosh.
