Game Discussions Objectively the best game

I'm just curious, portal is not recommended? Assume as it's not finished because it must be one of the finest games ever made.

And witcher 3 not listed? Also a fabulous game.

Though I've also played ED considerably more than both (well over 1000hrs), i would argue witcher 3 and portal are both better games.

I`m still on 1st planet, where you sent in an escape pod, plays like Fallout lovely graphics, playing on Ultra setting and never dipping below 60fps.
I can't comment about flying any ships if you can or can't.

(Not enough hours in the day too game)

Nothing like borderlands, Gearbox & Bethesda are not on my happy list of developers @ the Mo.
(excuse the grammar, it has been a long night and I`m ready for bed)

With over 6500 hours spent playing Elite: Dangerous, it's almost certainly my most played video game.

However, it's also the only game even vaguely like Jumpgate that has had enough of a population to bother with in the last fifteen years.

I can think of countless analogs and metaphors explaining why I'll sink thousands of hours into something I consider deeply flawed (though clearly still enjoyable), but I think the adage "hunger is the best sauce" is most appropriate.

With 4000 hours ED is far and away my most played game, to the point where I had to draw a line and quit as it was becoming unhealthy in terms of time spent. That doesn't make it the best game in my library in any objective sense, though, just that it was the most addicting. I'll still be playing Minecraft long after ED fades from my memory.

Minecraft sigh

Oh, the palaces constructed, the mines, the mobs.... and the hours and hours and hours... ⛏⛏⛏🧿

I once mined out a cube of epic proportions, leaving behind only the interesting things. Why???? 😂

I think apart from GTR2 (AWESOME game(sim) BTW) I've spent more time in Elite than any other game, but I'd say only 30-40% of that time was actually "fun" or doing anything at all.

Easily Elite, approx 4000hrs clocked with two accounts combined. Main account 3500hrs.
Second most hours has Divinity: Original Sin 2, 320hrs.
Third, XCOM (Firaxis version), 225hrs.

Just from my Steam 'favourites' collection - I have 409 games in my library, more than half of which I've never played...

Car Mechanic Simulator 2018: 212 hours
Disco Elysium: 59 hours
Skyrim SE: 16 hours
Oldrim: 100 hours
Elite Dangerous: 1494 hours
Evil Bank Manager: 24 hours
Football Manager 2019: 64 hours
GTA V: 73 hours
Greedfall: 21 hours
House Flipper: 94 hours
Jurassic World Evolution: 26 hours
Kingdom Come Deliverance: 45 hours
No Man's Sky: 355 hours
PC Building Simulator: 50 hours
Pillars of Eternity: 39 hours
Pillars of Eternity II: 33 hours
Planet Coaster: 18 hours
Civilisation VI: 35 hours
X4 Foundations: 57 hours

The most hours I've put into any game, well series, is the OFP/Arma series. I couldn't count the hours, its that many, over 17yrs or so. I still play Arma2 OA + dlc's (plus mods) every week, many hours. Lots of those hours in the Editor, it's just a fantastic series if your into mil/sims.

If someone were to give me one choice and I had to bin the rest, I'd keep Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead, no contest.

I finished Portal 2 on PS3 -- fantastic game. The final shot of the final level, with the correct travel time, brought tears to my eyes -- absolute perfection. When I came to Portal on PC, I found it needed the gamepad to get the same finesse and I'd lost the habit.

Not played Witcher 3. I'd have to commit significant time to it and there's other calls. Elite, for example.

there is bias in those results. If I followed my father advice of only buying a new game once Id completed the last one Id still be on Space invader on the atari 2600.

My backlog of games stretches back to when I was ten years old.

I don't think memory works like that... unless you end up with dementia, then a lot of stuff fades from memory. But here's hoping neither of us end up with that one!

I definitely consider ED among the greatest gaming experiences I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. I presently have 555 hours in ED. I am happy to stick with Elite Dangerous as my go to gaming entertainment. I intend to play ED for years to come, till FDev creates a next gen Elite game, the successor to Elite Dangerous.
