switching from steam to frontier question

I've been all over the fill out a ticket area and can't find a spot to ask a simple question.
I've read (not recently) here as well as a couple of other forums. That because Steam is on a pc which contains my data, that purchasing a digital copy from Frontier which would be installed on the same pc not to mention Frontier has on record somewhere every thing I've done the past two years. I could use Frontier's launcher rather than Steams launcher to play the game and not have to start from scratch again.

Anyone know if I can do that?

Nothing from your old (Steam) account is carried over, you start afresh.

Support have consistently refused to transfer assets / progress / commander name between accounts, by all means ask but be prepared for a refusal.

Here what I know:
First of all for reasons of my own, I dislike Steam.
I deleted it from my pc along with my ability to use their ED launcher.
I bought a digital copy from Frontier, it took 20 hours with my connection to download and install it.
When I clicked on the Frontier launcher the game started and I have lost nothing.
My status, my ships, my cr's, everything is as it was when utilizing steam except I don't have steam any longer.

In addition, and much to my surprise, my new Thrustmaster Warthog arrived.
Now for the arduous endeavor of learning all the muscle memories which is going to take a bit of time. Sure glad that ED has a default for it. That will make the first configuration a cake walk.

See ya all in the dark, gonna be in solo for a bit until I can figure out how to use the warthog considering there's no twist, should prove interesting.

That is very interesting - you logged-in to the launcher using your original Frontier account email and password, got the validation email, it was accepted and you are in the game with your original commander's progress and assets? That is great news - I shall have to experiment myself.

I am only guessing, but I think this might depend on when you got the game on steam. For example, I bought it on steam early after it's release there (around mid 2015). Back then the authentication was done through frontier still (i.e. I had to active my game with frontier despite buying through steam). Hence I have a frontier presence with my game. So I would expect the above to work for me if I should choose to do so. But I believe a few months after it's the migration (and authentication) with steam was complete. so mileage may vary.
Again, only guessing.

P.S. I have also started buying games off steam since their file verification process means I can no longer mod single player games, I guess becuase I might use the mod to cheat in multiplayer. Single player games like XCom enemy unknown and oblivion. stupid.

Hmmm ... well I just tried this process and ended up with the usual "Please purchase....." result - so didn't work.

Had another try - this time I first did the "Log out Machine" from that account's launcher and exited Steam. Still the same result trying to log in using a seperate copy of F D only launcher.

Don't know how you managed it @Cmdr Nemo LXXI - happy for you though. (y)

Those that have seen my other post and know of my willingness to switch from steam to frontier, know that I tried numerous time to get frontier's launcher to work to no avail. The process always ended in gotta buy the product. My steam account was opened in Aug this year and the process of utilizing frontier's launcher was Nerfed to anyone who acquired a steam version of ED after April. Thus switching for some isn't a problem as it is for anyone who joined after April.

Yesterday, I deleted anything and everything on my pc relating to Steam. And after rebooting my pc, I purchased a copy directly from Frontier as they stated to do the numerous times I attempted to get access via their launcher in the past. This time I got the standard go to your email for a code, got it, inserted it and boom, instead of getting a must purchase, I got an install. I wasn't surprise a bit! What did surprise me was, when I started the game, I didn't loose anything in-regards to what I had accomplished and or acquired during the many hours I was involved using steam.

The biggest reason to switch was, though I'm no pc geek. There is an extra step involved in the start up process using steam vs not using steam. And with my slower than molasses in a Minnesota January internet connection. Basically now I can enter Frontier's house with out having to unlock a gate outside the house. I just knock and I'm allowed in. Thus a slightly cleaner more efficient connection. One less reason to get a disconnect.

If you bought your game early from Steam or from Fontier you got a Steam key. Can't you just unlink your Steam account from the Frontier account and play using Frontier account only?

Anyone purchasing ED via steam prior to April 25 this year has the option of downloading a launcher from Frontier and it will work. Anyone who bought after doesn't have the option. Though Steam's launcher and Frontier's launcher look identical, today downloading and installing Frontier's launcher involves getting an email with a code. IF one had as I said a copy via steam prior to April the code will work. If like myself who bought it via steam after April will get a message when inserting the code to purchase a copy via Frontier. Which I've now accomplished.
My original post here was a question of do I get to keep the progress I had ascertain while with steam and ended up answering my own question by purchasing a digital copy via Frontier, downloading and installing it and when I started the game. I had everything I had accomplished via my partnership with steam; Which has come to a close because I've deleted everything and closed my account.
