When do stations attack you?

Curious about this, as I don't want to test this with a rebuy.

Is it already sufficient to have a 400cr bounty in that system and you get scanned by the station? Will you be destroyed?

I had more than a few and somehow managed to wedge my ship on the inside of a station on the outer edge near the airlock.

As for bounties, I don't know... I don't think I've had one since the crime and punishment update.

Hopefully someone else will come along with a more useful answer.

Cheers.

OK, so just having a bounty from the controlling faction but not being hostile means the station doesn't attack you?

Sry, but this is kind of confusing, hope there is a clear answer to this.

You should google how to make money from mining, then you could afford a rebuy (most people say not to fly without one, but I guess it's your right to do without). Though I guess if you allowed yourself to use google then you could use that to research bounties...

If you dont have a bounty, but you are hostile, you will be attacked

If you have no bounty, you are not hostile, but you do a stupid thing like pad loitering or mail slot loitering, you will get attacked eventually

If you have no bounty, not hostile, but you are carrying a wanted passenger and you get scanned, you will be attacked

Just to be pedantic: the station itself never scans you. The cop ships orbiting the station are the things that do the scanning. Stay away from the cops so they won't scan you, and you won't get pinged as a target in Northpin's scenario 1 or 4 (if you have either a bounty or a Wanted passenger).

Obviously, in Anarchy systems where there are no cops, then neither scenarios 1 or 4 can happen. But despite Anarchist protestations of being places without rules, an Anarchy station will still shoot at you in scenario 2 or 3 (you become officially Hostile to the Anarchists, or you do the pad loitering / no-fire-zone-breaking thing).

The station will attack you when you have been scanned by the patrolling cops and found to have a bounty on you, illicit cargo or a criminal passenger on board. If You have any of those things, you have to get into the station without getting scanned. That means flying in fast and straight down the stations axis into the slot. You don't need to boost, just use 4 pips to engines and back off just before you go through.

If the station is hostile, it'll be marked red, so pretty obvious that something is wrong. In 6000hrs playing and doing lots of naughty things, I've only ever seen that twice.

Other reasons the station blows you up are pretty obvious, like going in without docking permission, exceeding the loitering time-out, shooting inside the station, etc.

I would bet 100/1 that you were blown up because you were scanned and found to be a criminal because of your bounty. You can easily find out by checking your log files. Find the one for that session, open it with Notepad and search for "Died". The comments recorded before that will show why they shot at you. Everything is recorded!

When do stations attack you?
  • when you are hostile -> direct attack
  • when you shoot it -> direct retribution
  • when you commit murder in the instance and the station isn't anarchy -> the cops at least will hunt you
  • when you loiter the airshield or pad -> punishable by death
  • when you are wanted and a security ship resolves the scan -> hunting season
Did i forget one?

The rest of the infractions should only incur a fine, unless the worth of the fine exceeds a threshhold.

A distinction that I haven't seen addressed yet: which situations result in just the station security ships attacking, vs what triggers the station itself to open fire?

Pad and mail slot loitering, only the station attacks. This includes entering without docking permission.

Scanned with a bounty or illegal passenger, I think only the police attack.

Fire and hit the station or hostile to the controlling faction, I think everyone attacks.
