Mamba advice?

Check out an armored and monstered power plant and see how it runs then. I don't have one, but have played around with some builds on Coriolis to see if I might want to. For me it doesn't quite overcome the niche rolls of a couple of my other ship potentials, but still looks pretty good on "paper."

Cheers.

Ah, the great paradox of the Mamba...

It's main purpose is as an Apex combat ship but, if you want an Apex combat ship, the FdL does the job just that little bit better.

Still, if you must have a Mamba, there's not really much to worry about regarding heat.
If you got for a build that doesn't include lasers of any kind then things might get a bit toastie but as long as you have some lasers, and apply the thermal vent mod', you'll be fine.
Good thoughts, one clarification. The Mamba is a bit more user friendly for those who don't like fixed weapons, like me (I use a controller). The FdL is superb IF you can master fixed weapons; its slight maneuvering edge and ideal setup for rails really shine. I just can't seem to get into mine though. I'm working on a bizarre pack hound heavy build but it's not one of my favorites to fly ATM.

I installed an AFMU. I was able to rock a single or 2 targets just cooking at 400+ heat with my current build of beam turrets on the right, a huge PAC, and fixed frag cannons on the left, but it would start malfunctioning too much after that. I haven't tried it out to see if it does the job. The goal is to rout a medium CZ. Whatever. No big deal.

Uh huh.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the FdL.
I find it a bit "drifty" to fly, sort of like a miniature Cutter.
Also, the lack of internal slots means it's frustrating trying build one to do anything beyond making other ships explode.
I much prefer a Krait Mk2.

Regarding the mamba vs the FdL, though, I always just find myself asking why I'd want to build a Mamba instead of an FdL and I've never found a good answer.
The FdL might be a bit "drifty" but the pitch rate of the Mamba is dreadful, which is a big disadvantage in combat.
Also, the FdL's got better shield and armor fiddle-factors than the Mamba too.

Sure, the Mamba's got a decent speed advantage but, if you can't actually turn to aim at targets, that's not a lot of use... unless, perhaps, you spend a lot of time chasing after Cutters. 🤷‍♂️

I had a similar build with overcharged burst lasers. Worked REALLY well, but I had to have full pips to weapons and not go whole hog on the guns for more than 30 seconds at a time. Usually though, I could push it to 45 seconds or so, enough to shred most NPC ships while not overheating to critical levels.

The "taking heat damage" message really annoys me though; I try to avoid that.

Yup a real topic about some actual gameplay.

I just bought the Mamba and as far as I can remember the thing runs hot?
What would be the best engineering to run it efficient and reasonably cool?
I got all A grade modules and fitted the biggest shields, four shield boosters, 1 huge mc, 2 large beams, 2 small mc.
I could just swap my fdl parts but I rather build this ship up from the ground.

Some insight would be very much appreciated.

Efficient with one Flow Control and one Thermal Vent on the Beams.
Efficient on the MC's with Auto Loader.

I think that's what I've got on mine.

Took her out for a spin in a HazRes and I like it so far.
I'm used to fight with my Corvette with which I take Condas for breakfast, with the Mamba I have to be a bit more carefull which targets to pick, I'm not that good at combat.

The huge beam is great and once the shields are gone the MCs do a good job imho.
It's not as nimble as I hoped but it's fun, no one realy runs away from you, you're to fast for that.
I'm glad I added the Mamba to my fleet, it looks cool too and the cockpit view is awesome.

Here's my build so far, not everything is done due to some marerial shortage so it's still a work in progress.

Thanks for all your tips and opinions, they're much appreciated.

Nice.

I always focus on my Beams first because I like to take the shields down as quickly as possible.
You're right that it's not as agile as other ships but reverse engines with a well aimed flight assist off \ on can make up for it.

One of my favourite ships for combat.

Just curious, do you have an experimental on your thrusters? I use Drive Distributors for better handling. If you want more speed, go with Drag Drives, but IMO my Mamba is fast enough as is. You'll notice the difference Distributors will make.

Also, it's worthwhile in a combat build to shave as much weight off as you can when possible. I always go for at least G2 lightweight on life support and sensors. Makes a bit of difference. :)

@Bloodsign,
I've got G5 dirty drives with drag drives, it's speed is 494 atm, boost 603 I believe.

You guys mention all Frags but how do they hold up against shields?
I like experimenting so I'll probably give that a try someday.
I need some more materials first.

Even without any engineering, the pure damage frags deal is enough to quickly dispatch most shields in pve, but as soon as you apply incendiary rounds to one or two of them, this becomes a non-issue. Going pure frags admittedly doesn't confer much staying power - you'll run dry quickly in extended combat scenarios unless you resynth ammo a lot. But for things liks assassination missions it's gold, especially with the mamba's extreme speed, because you most of the time determine the engagement distance.

Frags do wreck everything when you get right up in their face. Frag cannons are brutally efficient. I shredded an NPC 'vette like a chump with my previously mentioned build and the two hicap frags were a key part of that engagement's tactical plan.
