This is what Maintenance Mode must be like :(

My prediction for the next 12 months.
  • F2P coming with the 'big' update
  • Carriers to be launched alongside, to keep the vets interested
  • LEP owners get 20,000 free ARX points and can equip A rated models.
  • The server will go open only, no groups or solo, in order to emphasise the competitive nature of the game
  • Powerplay will be revamped to be more PvP
  • Optional Subscription model - £8.99 gets you 2000 free ARX a month, able to equip A rated modules, and increased storage space.
  • Further game expansions to be released as Permits, only permit holders can investigate systems with 'interesting things'

Nothing of the above.

Let's see who wins!

Nope. At the end of the day they’re a money making corporation with shareholders and very well paid directors - much of whose bonus is a product of exploiting their customers’ loyalty combined with refusal to invest in the resource to reward that loyalty. The bottom line is the bottom line.

Don’t even get me started on the sheer greedy gall of asking for handouts to make the game in the first place. Issue equity you cheap .......
I guess you quit playing the game too?

Can't see any of that happening, maybe apart from the permits system for planetary landings. It's basically no different to what we already have for planetary landings.

You appear to have forgotten that the above version will be on mobile phone only...

Fortunately, they aren't likely to follow the pay to win route ... they've consistently said they won't and making FCs available on the base game supports that.

Please remember that Tencent bought 9% of frontier last year, Tencent don't do in F2P game do they?....:)

I'm developing a new form of high-velocity magnetic launcher, due for release in January of 2020. According to my Gantt charts and schedules, I should be on target. Half-way through my initial production, I discover a flaw, a serious flaw. I call my buyers, who have invested in these already and I explain to them "Hey, I know I said January of 2020 for these, but I've discovered a serious issue. I need to fix this before I get these produced. Since you've already spent your money, I'll still deliver these, but they're going to be delayed. But this is better than having the user electrocuted trying to use them, right?"

If my buyers are sane and rational people, they'll agree. If they're this lot, they'll throw fits and bad-mouth me, because I want to deliver a reliable product.

It seems you don't remember but it was a feature to be delivered in 2018. Then in 2019 2 months after their announcement of release and 2 months before the announced release, they come up with "there are bugs the community wants fixed" and delayed it for another 8 months.

There's a problem in FD they don't want to tell us. And I know part of their problem is they want to expand FD faster than the should and Elite Dangerous is suffering from it.
Its really clear when you see the game interactions and gameplay, its crap and it saddens me because they had all the opportunities in the world to make it the best game ever.

What if there had been some moment of self-realization at FD, and the ‘New Era’ is curated 3rd-party development.

What if they’re beavering away at a proper API and an SDK?
That plus solidifying the core would be a new era worth waiting for.

Complete fantasy but dreams are all some of have left ;)

Remember ice planets?

I remember ice planets. This time last year I still thought we were getting them at the end of 2018, we even saw pics of them in game. Now, today, I honestly have no idea if we are ever going to get them at all. I have no idea what Frontier's status on them is. Are they coming later? Have they been cancelled completely? Who knows, we haven't received any communication about them whatsoever.

Why?

Because reasons. Secrets and frack.

Ice planets. Sigh.

Where did I say I didn't care?

And whether you are right or not is purely subjective.
Deep down you know this game sucks. I know it, you know it, we all collectively know it. It’s fine man, just be honest with yourself.

Just literally been studying project finance. He’d have to give the investors the option to be reimbursed the investment. So the analogy actually works against him.

I don't want to believe that but, delaying FC for 2 years sounds really strange.
I should correct myself there: they said (past tense) FCs would be available in the basic game, but now that they are coming only a few months ahead of the scheduled date for The Next Big Thing, then it's 🤷‍♂️

Ice planets mysteriously slipped from "here, look at what we are doing, wonderful aren't they?" ..... to "they will come later" .... to "we aren't talking about them at all." Meanwhile, the ice planets we have are like placeholders; they look nice in places but don't hold your attention for too long. I feel very disappointed every time I explore and scan an ice planet, thinking what could have been by now ..... and indeed should have been. We were given no explanation, which was kind of rude.

I wasn't there at the start (the kickstart that is) but I have been a player of the Elite games in general since the original appeared in the 1980s.

It seems the current Elite game... Elite IV... Elite Dangerous as we know it - which started off as a sleek dart thrown from the shoulders of some legendary giants and seemingly heading towards a fairly certain future - has, over the years, somehow morphed into a badly folded paper airplane swooping and meandering all over the place and bumping into walls on the way, crumpling it even further.

The reasonably direct, clear vision at its birth has, I believe, been compromised by a number of different designers pulling that original vision in some very odd directions at times, and - if we're honest - probably not helped by some conflicting community feedback along the way.
A lot of the feature updates in ED's past have felt like bolted-on whims from the particular designer du jour and never made much sense (at least to me as an old Elite and FE2 player). Okay, Horizons made sense ... of course you have to have planetary landings, FE2 had that, but where did Powerplay come from? Or CQC? Or even Engineers? The question's been posed before in this thread, but ... who asked for them?

ED being such an ambitious project needed a well defined road map and it looks now like it never really had one. It had a plan, yes, it had some loose goals, but they weren't rigidly enough defined and ultimately there was no discipline to keep the plan on track.
Which brings us to where we are now. Which is a game that really doesn't feel like it's being driven by anyone in particular any more.
Which at this point, I guess, just is what it is.

The introduction of a premium currency recently broke the game quite badly. I read that a cosmetic, a decal, was responsible for breaking the latest CG. I've seen several posters in this thread agreeing with the idea that it may be time for FD to give up on the current iteration and start again. It does all make me wonder if 2019/2020 is a real pivotal point for this game.

I remember a video in which David Braben was talking about Powerplay. I think he wanted it.
