What other games are we all playing?

It' GRAPHICALLY comparable with Empyrion. But at it's creative sandbox soul, is the essence of Minecraft. Unless you d/l mods, you can't fly your ship unless you build it first. You can't live/occupy your base HQ unless you build it first. You can't drive your land vehicle unless you build it first. You can't survive in the world or solar system you're in unless you engineer sustenance and shelter designated structures to sustain yourself.

And to do all of this, you need to gather/scavenge/recycle and engineer mats/tech for resources of the 3 building blocks types that will allow building these. i.e.
small building block = small spaceship, aircraft or land vehicle
large building block = large space ship or base HQ

By dev definition, SE and all it's features = a sandbox game:

Yup, sounds like Empyrion to me. :)

I think we all understand that you're a "strong advocate" of Space Engineers , but you're replying to a post that was about Disco Elysium. ;)
Guilty as charged.

And fanks. Me no speakie Dutchie. Only Americana Spanglish very poorlie :geek:

Should've used the google translator! 😂

Yup, sounds like Empyrion to me. :)
Speaking of which....this just received another update yesterday:

After that linguistic brain fart faux pas, maybe I should start shilling for EG. Spam this thread with EG pics instead

The Truck Simulators are on sale for $5 each on Steam, so I grabbed the American version. Downloading now. Not sure when I'll find time to play all these games! I guess ED will just have to take a back-burner for awhile.

Speaking of, I'm really enjoying Space Engineers :D

Oh good! This explains why Steam website was down yesterday. It was the McScrooge slackers like you who were holding out for a Steam holiday windfall sale. Made a killing with those discounts by stampeding through those virtual game isles and buying up all the good deals. No wonder Steam's network imploded under all that traffic yesterday. :ROFLMAO:

I also noticed a significant uptick in the number of gamers playing SE. Compared to ED (which has a flat gamer trend for over a month now), SE got another boost up the Steam top 100 games list since this sale went live. Lots of PC gamers in solo and multiplayer modes having a blast. I really hope FDev is paying attention to these trends.

Another good buy. Truckin is relaxing, well on a screen it is.. ;)

I've been surprised at the parallels between ED and SE. I'm very early game, having just built my first "SRV" yesterday, but the driving around, looking for materials, sometimes flipping over - it reminds me a lot of ED. Yet I feel way more attached to SE's SRV, because I designed and built it, and I have to get out and weld up everything by hand (all the dings and dents). I'm playing Solo survivor mode right now, getting a lot of enjoying from just figuring things out myself, but someday I'll try one of these servers for some fun co-op and PvP.

And the graphics aren't half bad! I have encountered some bugs, but considering the scale of this game, I'm not surprised.

Someday I'm going to build my favorite Elite ships in SE. Somebody should start an ED-themed server. We could probably build our own Coriolis station!

I was really into SE and i started building my 5X5 mining monster, but got totally disappointed how the wheels and suspension works. Because they dont.
Theres absolutely no grip in those big tires and the suspension modeling is terrible, i just cant live with those.. :(
I have tried changing all stats linked with those but nothing seems to help, the suspension modeling is simply awful and kills my immersion immediately.

@Henkka77 well SE has never been about realism type of immersion based on its Minecrafty design. SE isn't meant to look like SC and/or function with the realistic Newtonian mechanics of ED. It's physics leans more towards NMS IMO. So ship battles are just one notch above the arcade pew pew fest they began as some 5 years ago. Actually, PvP ship battles are still a lot arcady to date come to think of it. 🤓 But at least the PvP space leg combat is a lot more realistic with the recent graphics/texture update in the 4 DLC to date.

@Old Duck yeah I have several ships on my to do list. Going to design a Cutter, Belugia, Anaconda and Sidey. The aesthetics of the blocky design would significantly improve if they plan on releasing design block content with geometric curvature in it. Think I'll start out on the small end on that list. Not get too ambitious to fast.:)

Unusual that, as my old build hauler works fine, although this is from a while back. But you do have to take into account the planets gravity, plus all the settings on the build ie; friction, suspension etc.
I have a little 4 wheel fun buggy that is a blast to play around in, although not much good for anything else as it's too small. ;)

I like wheeled vehicles in SE, however, if they're not set up right then you can have problems, but as with many build versions of SE, sometimes you just hit on the wrong build at the time, which may have been what happened to you, not sure.

___

Have to put this one in as well.. Not my build, this is much better than I would do, for wheels at least. A nice 'large' rolling fort..

I'm a hover fan myself, rather than wheels.. ;)

Edit: SE isn't a pew, pew game really. Where fighting is concerned its better to take the tactical route, ie. fire from a distance. There are plenty of weapons you can build that will do the job, even a simple camera on a drone will do the job for you, flying bomb.
ED has the pew, pew side, for sure. SE is a little more thought out.. ;)

Found my hover buggy.. o.k. another video.. I know..

____
Flight model wise SE v ED, for me they feel almost the same. This is without inertia dampeners on, fly in a direction and you won't stop until you put some type of force against that direction. It isn't like NMS, arcade style, which I enjoy too.
Ship's in SE however tend to act their size more, large ships, if built nicely, will feel heavy on the whole. Plus vice-versa, my very small bug fighter is very nimble indeed and with a better pilot than me, would do quite well in pew, pew. ;)

Now where planets are concerned these are not realistic in that they will not rotate and there isn't much chance of getting an orbit, although some have got very near using what the game has. They do however have varying gravity pull and atmosphere's (depending on planet). But originally there were not going to be any planets at all. But we as a community kept on asking and finally got them. As they are, are as we take them, and we're thankfull for that too. ;)

There are many things in the game like gyroscopes, artificial mass, gravity gens and so on, that bend all sorts of rules. But the same can be said for most space games, case of give and take plus it is the future... ;)
There are mods that will give you almost anything regards flying you want. But on the whole the game has a good flight model.

I just bought a Wacom 24" Cintiq Pro, so my luxury fund is pretty depleted at the moment; I have to decide between Disco Elysium and Red Dead Revolver 2 for my last new game of the year:(

I've not experienced this. Here's a screenshot of my first "mobile base". My escape pod landed me a million miles from any ores, so building this giant ugly monster was a necessity (but I designed and built it all by myself in Survival mode and am very proud of it). The traction and suspension is fine, as long as I don't try to climb a mountain. The key is regulating power and speed - the defaults are way too high.

As I said earlier, I'm finding parallels to this and ED. I'm exploring this new world (to me), looking for materials necessary for my survival and growth. I've got space legs and a sense of scale and a real purpose in "setting out" to see what's on this world and then later out in space. Eventually, perhaps months from now, I'll have exhausted all this exploration and ship building, but then I'll have the option for PvP which looks pretty epic as well.

And the game is impressively detailed in physics, for a game. Load up the back of a vehicle, and the rear end sags. I ended up lifting the front wheels off the ground in my first "pickup truck" by accident. (The other picture is of the improved truck with weight properly centered.) The angle of the sun on the solar panels matters! My panels are on the top facing up, so I'll park on a slight incline to face the sun to get a better charge rate. Power management in general is a pretty big deal right now at this phase of the game, so I'm setting up switches to control my life support, factory, scanners, etc. My next project is an LCD display that shows battery charge rate (if that's doable).

And I've only just scratched the surface of this game! I've yet to build anything that flies or mines or replicates or automates. It was definitely worth $14! I might grab some DLC just to support it more.

RDR2 is FAR superior to DE. Besides the uniqueness of having to ride (and care for) your horse, RDR2 is superior for its story line, game play mechanics, RPing (with Arthur your story PC), graphics, world building, PC and NPC development, immersion, player choice, realism (for given time period in the Wild West), world interaction (ability to drive/rob/ride trains, stage coaches, watch live shows by NPCs etc) customize your character (both before game and during the game) etc. Even little details like being able to eat & drink in bars/restaurants, take baths in hotels (because your character & horse both get dirty), rent a room in town, camp out in the wilderness whenever you feel like it, over eating/under eating affecting both your PC (Arthur's) and horse's health/weight, Arthur's hair/beard growing as the game progresses (unless you shave/cut them off) etc etc.

Too much QoL detail to list here. But the other reason you should get RDR2 is for the online version. I'm a lone wolf single player who doesn't care to play the online mode versions of my single player games. But the map on RDR is so vast, that it's very rare you encounter other players. And ever since the Frontiers DLC update came out (that added dedicated Bounty Hunter, Collector and Trading/hunting careers), the amount of hostile encounters I've had is exactly zero. Players are too absorbed with RPing solo or with friends with the Frontier content. Also dynamic content such as random world encounters with stranger NPCs (which affect your honor rating that changes with game progression) keeps the game play interesting and non linear. And finally, there are competitive PvE and PvP focused events where you can compete/collaborate with other players to earn bonus gold/money and XP.

TL DR: Just get RDR2. Your inner child will love you for it and it's replay value (both story mode and online) is immeasurable.

ps: buy the game manual (there is an INSANE amount of content in story mode that you'll likely NEVER see unless you have the manual). Also try to get the Ultimate edition if you can. This will give you the max amount of promotions you can get from playing the online component of the game (see Rockstar site for the major in game discounts & freebies you'll get for both storyline and playing online. Things like free mounts, a lot of free clothing outfits etc which are extremely expensive in game to buy). And you'll also get a free license to start the BH, collector and/or trading careers which cost a good amount of gold bars. Also, you might want to wait until RDR2 comes out on PC. Graphics and game play (due to higher fps) will be superior. And there is the possibility of mods for the game once the PC community gets around to it. Since this is coming out in Nov for PC, then best wait until Christmas time for great deals on any sales

Unless you REALLY hate westerns and REALLY like Sci-Fi.. then the reverse. :p

RDR2 is most definitely a remarkable game. I don't usually go for a game with a structure like RDR, but the fact they let you do what you want, whilst following the story, is what got me hooked.
I always fancied playing the original RDR, but because it wasn't on pc, I didn't bother. That was my loss and I may pick it up at some point because of the current game. Having played RDR2 on xbox x one, it has been a very nice smooth wonderful western escape, a genuinely great gaming experience.

Being a lover of western films, it does seem to put us in the boots of a 'cowboy' rogue. How much of a rogue, depends on the player, which is where it really succeeds. It's got a light enough touch to let the story progress whilst you explore and wander. The story telling is outstanding, the bonds you make with various characters feels genuine and the loss of those characters can be very touching. A good film or book will give you that feeling and attachment, RDR2 does the same.

I would recommend it to anyone.
