Elite: Dangerous Battlecards Update

Many of you CMDRs may have seen or heard of Elite: Dangerous Battlecards. It was to have been a Elite: Dangerous based two player card game published by Spidermind Games with a release date of this last November. However, due to the interference of a copyright troll the Kickstarter has been stalled for nearly a year.

With no progress in sight with regards to the Kickstarter, Fontier has offered to fund the publishing of the game on their own dime, provided there is still an interest in the game.

If you originally backed the Kickstarter or are just now becoming aware, head over to:

to learn more and/or preorder now. Support this great developer (Spidermind Games) and let's get this thing going again.

Edit: The latest information regarding the anticipated release date from Lavecon was "before Christmas" but possibly sooner.

I've heard the interviews with Spidermind on Lave Radio, and they really do deserve every support after having a really lousy time of it.

I'm hunting down the back of the sofa for every last penny...

How did the chat on Lave Radio go?
It was a pretty good discussion of what happened. Apparently in the end Kickstarter did agree to re-open the Kickstarter. They even offered to extend it for 30 days. However, they also said that if any additional copyright claims were made it would stop all over again. So basically, anything Elite related is officially dead on Kickstarter due to a single copyright troll.

After hearing Kickstarter's position David Braben stepped in and offered to have Frontier fund it directly. So now it's back on. It's expected to be out in the wild, possibly, within 8-12 weeks plus shipping.

That's really rather saddening. I imagine that the parties involved in the claim are delighted.

Oh well, at least it will now see the light of day - with the support of the community if enough interest is shown in terms of pre-orders.

In the hope that battlecards might see the light of day in the coming months, is anyone able to tell me the sizes required for sleeving. Its gonna need a lot for the season box and id like to make a head start.. cheers cmdrs

Shipmonkey, I DM'ed the folks at Spidermind and they confirmed that the cards are the same size as Pokemon cards.

I will defo pre order on pay next week.

I'd buy any Elite boardgame and I'd buy models, lego or other ED merch... I can understand Frontier looking at it from a business point of view but I actually think non playing space geeks and nerd collectors would still buy products even if they had never touched Elite Dangerous.

yeah steve, im a board game fan in general and was stoked to find an elite dangerous card game combining two passions. i also have some other merch like tshirts and hats.
been a backer for this for couple of years and happy that we might be getting it soon... ordered my sleeves !

Does anybody know what is happening with this? I can not find any further info and the card of day seems to have stopped as of 5th September.....

Because I can't 100% confirm from the information provided on the website...

Is a copy of the game required PER PLAYER, where we customize our own stacks, or are games played from the same pile and both players draw from the same stack?

I understand this is 1vs1 only, correct?

Each box is setup to allow full 1 vs 1 gameplay. Each box has three ship decks: Federal, Imperial, and independent/Alliance. You are right that you customize your hand, but that has limitations. Each player can pick only Federal or Imperial ships, but can add independent ships if they want.

Having two boxes allows Federal vs Federal or Imperial vs Imperial play and for duplicate cards to be played.
