Dangerous Discussion > Elite Dangerous

My intention wasn't to mock anyone, but if it really offends you I could remove you from that list. For me everyone on it is a forum legend... :)
Or you suggest a typical Babelfisch comment and I'll add it.
Babelfisch: I always assume to be the better of my peers. (and you know what that makes u and me)

Add that. A forum legend in the making. :)

This forum is the only forum I've been interested in for many years (last forum I belonged to was in the 1990s IIRC). I recently became interested in another game enough to at least browse various forums (Steam, Reddit) for it - Space Engineers. What I found interesting was the parallels between those forums and this forum. Some players are currently having a meltdown because the developer is focusing on cosmetic DLC instead of game mechanics. It kinda reminds me of Arx!

I'm still in the honeymoon phase with SE, so I'm just shaking my head at all the negative posts, but perhaps in a couple of years I'll become a grumpy old salt with SE just like I am here, LOL. That said, SE does seem to be getting way more updates and bug fixes than ED (and it already has space legs, base-and-everything-else-building, atmospheric planets, etc). And their cosmetic DLC costs less than a cockpit cactus, and you get way more than a cactus in a single SE cosmetic pack!

There is one aspect of DD that intrigues me and to be honest I haven't seen this aspect on other gaming forums I have been part of. It is the Forum Zombie, that person that not only doesn't play the game anymore but in some instances, boasts about that fact yet they still continue to frequent the forum. I just can't work out why they bother, are they hoping that FD will see their regular posts and take pity on them and change the game to suit them? Are they hoping that FD will hire them to fix the game since they know what is wrong with it and how to fix it? Is it as simple as because they no longer enjoy the game they want to ensure no one else does either? Or do they really want the game to be shut down, so they can tell us they were right in their assessment of FD all along?

All I know is there is a growing list of them that I now consider totally irrelevant to any discussion on the game, simply because they haven't played the game (even if they say they are experts in that area, you don't become expert by watching a couple of You-tube videos).

I think the FZ's lurk constantly in order for folk to remember them - perhaps hoping they would 'mourn the loss' of such a wonderful player...
They do make for a seperate game in itself though, always justifying their right to post here... As someone suggested a while back, a bit like the jilted boyfriend who just can't 'let go' :)

Might be that simple, strange though because from what I have read most weren't that a skilled player anyway. I do laugh at them when they start describing how some new feature is the worst piece of coding that has ever been input, after telling us they haven't played the game in 12 months ..... :D

P.S.
are we PvPing yet?...

:)
Not yet, hang on ...

I stick around because I like discussing stuff. I have been on various forums for as long as I can remember and most of those I ended up in the off topic section discussing politics, religion, economy, immigration, terrorism, the lot.

Now the advantage of this place over those other places is, when for instance you have a discussion about , chances are the extremophiles will descend into: "You're a baby murderer", "No, you're a misogynist" territory. While in this place people might call me a coward or a carebear because I prefer a certain game mode. Or a tourist when I don't agree with the direction exploration has taken. Or a Forum Zombie when someone transparently tries to get a rise out of people :) In that regard posting here is an enjoyable past time, with the insults limited to the way I play a game (or in this case, don't play a game). Which for all intents and purposes is pretty damn mild and quite easy to chuckle and dismiss. I do find it quite telling that in all the possible motivations you came up with, all of them are negative. Dismissing very obvious motivators. Which in turn intrigues me. What possible motivator could you have to paint me and others like me in that light I wonder.

Besides that, there's quite a few oddball characters here who I enjoy talking to.

And lastly, I have seen this in every gaming forum I am a part off. Gaming forums create communities. The community is larger than the game itself. The community consists of people interactions. Those do not disappear the moment someone stops playing a game. :)

Oh look! How sweet, a reach around :)

Tell me dear Ratkatcher. Why should I justify my right to post here? Do I not have that right regardless? How about: "because I like to"?

I'm intrigued ;)

It is fascinating that the two people with the highest reaction score on the forum are yourself (who no longer plays the game but chips in all over the place with excellent and thought provoking meta discussion) and Factabulous (who's still heavily involved with the game afaik and a constant fountain of current in-game wisdom and knowledge). It seems people enjoy both kinds of music (Country AND Western).

Strange, I actually went back and rechecked my post, no where did I say a FZ can't post, I just asked WHY, and what did they hope to achieve.

Strange, I went back to my post and no where did I claim you claimed a FZ can't post. I just answered your why. edit, apologies: your WHY.

You're welcome :)

Now that's a PvP ambush if ever I saw one. Although he did seem to wander right into it on his own accord.
:D
Front row seats are the best! :)

Oh! I thought you still played!

At least you are very entertaining and I'd miss your inimicable posting style...
(I'll exempt you from the 'jilted' class, as a special case :) )
Noooooo! Don't exempt me. Where's the fun in that?

You forum high waked out on me.

edit: I had to look up inimicable. I learned a new word today, and it's a goodie :)
