Buying cartographic data in the Galaxy Map

This is a feature of the game I haven't used since I started playing over three years ago, but I decided to have a look at it this morning, only to discover that I could remember nothing about it.

A glance at the Interwebs told me that I should be able to buy cartographic data for inhabited systems up to twenty years from my current location, but checking this out I found one system 9.71 LY from my current location for which I had neither cartographic data nor the offer to purchase it. Am I missing something?

Incidentally, I have a small suspicion that the New Era is going to include the ability to jump directly to any planet of a system for which you have cartographic data, hence my renewed interest in buying cartographic data: there have been several videos from our esteemed content creators recently complaining about travel times, and as I understand it long-duration supercruise travel was never Frontier's idea in the first place, but voted for by the community way back when.

I suspect Frontier have come to the conclusion that newbie players (whom they'd rather like to keep) just aren't as keen on the feature as the space sim enthusiasts who populated the early days of the game.

If the system for which you canot purchase data has not yet been disovered,it might be worth visiting for that first discovered bonus. :giggle:
It's an inhabited (barely) system 9.71 LY from Panorua, which these days is in a much-trafficked corner of the Bubble. I can't believe that nobody's been routed through it on their way to Borann.

I tried it once...YMMV...I 'bought' what turned out to be a basic system scan and iirc 2 planets mapped...no logic to the mapped ones...never tried it again

Assumptions made which could be 100% wrong:

Bought data only includes player scanned/mapped data. Not mapped by a player? No info available. (for me, whats the point?)
Basically might as well do a jump, honk & FSS or visit the Nav Beacon to get the same data 99% of the time.
It led to me thoroughly mapping systems to make the data worthwhile but have waned in that out of the bubble
AFAIK it is only available on the GalMap tab to buy it, no idea why it wouldnt be there for certain systems unless not player scanned....or a bug.

All (nearly all?) the systems which previously had been already known to your nav computer by default were changed on the FSS update to be marked as "Unknown" until you jumped in (or had been there already?) - you cannot buy the carto data for those systems.

I believe it's a bug from the V3.0 update already, which introduced these and related issues.

So to this date, there's plenty of Systems that are well within 20LY - but will not be available for purchase.
What little remains for purchase with UC appears to be down to RNG and can be down to virtually zero in some cases - despite plenty of unvisited Systems with no Data onboard <20LY.

So for the time being, one has to physically fly to such Systems to attain the Data.

So basically, before 3.3 you could buy cartographic information for any inhabited system within 20 LY, but adding the FSS broke this?

Yes. This makes a difference?
It used to since you're buying the data from the station you're docked at.

This function has been useful to me when I've been looking at missions to take, and I want to see the specifics of a system. Such as how far away from each other things are and other bits and bobs.

It's handy, but, yeah, sometimes, you can't buy the info, and I'm never quite sure why.
