Where are you, Ibex?

I've heard some players mention speculation around having ibex in the game. I want Ibex SO badly. I have so many ideas for a wonderful mountain climbing habitat. And the babies are just adorable!

Sure, they aren't really endangered. The Nubian Ibex is considered vulnerable, though I would prefer something like the Iberian or Alpine Ibex to create a great snowy mountain habitat.

Still, so much has been posted about "new animals found", and I keep searching and searching for mention of the Ibex. I'm beginning to think we won't be getting these guys until later on down the road... :(

There’s still stuff to be revealed so who knows what there will be in the game when it’s released.

But I agree, an Alpine ibex would be amazing, especially for European zoos. They are great animals and it would be a real shame if we don’t get it eventually.

As to be expected from my other posts, I support this desperate search.

I don’t think, the conservation status should determine, whether or not an animal is represented in PZ.
The alpine ibex isn’t endangered?
So what? It’s a beautiful animal, representing a phylum underrepresented in the game (I guess you can call ‘zero’ as “underrepresented”) and lives in an unique and outstanding biome.

Just add marmots, chamois, maybe brown bears, red deer and snow rabbits and - if we ever get aviaries - golden eagles and barbed vultures so the ibex doesn’t feel lonely.

Would said animals have a climbing need like the primates?

Likely.
I don't think, rocks do satisfy climbing needs, though. As it would probably be difficult to separate climbing needs of primates from those more "earth-bound" climbers, I would happily abstain from such a game mechanic for having the aninmals in the game. It will probably be difficult enough to integrate those almost absurd climbing skills into the "accesible terrain algorithm".

Lol. I would hope if they did have a climbing need that rocks and steep terrain would suffice. I don't want them climbing across monkey climbing poles. Maybe some people do, but that's not for me...

I think the Alpine ibex would be a wonderful animal for Planet Zoo - a great representative of European fauna and a visually striking species to boot.

Although the Alpine ibex is listed as Least Concern, their conservation story is so interesting that I think they would really add to the game. At the beginning of the 19th century, there were just 50-100 ibex in one Italian national park. In 1905, some fawns smuggled out of Italy ended up in zoos in Switzerland and so began one of the longest-running and most successful captive breeding/reintroduction projects ever. One Swiss zoo, over a period of twenty-two years, released 233 ibex into the wild. From those 50-100 animals, there are now some 40,000 ibex now living in the wild.

Add to that their interesting behaviour - such as their spectacular head-butting and they will even climb trees in order to feed, and you have yourself a truly fantastic potential addition.
