Short Freezes

Game runs great but every minute sometimes 2 minutes and sometimes 3 or 4 minutes the game freezes very shortly then i hear my pC fan speeding up and then everything unfreezes again as soon as the fan stops speeding up. Any idea what is going on?

What are your PC specs? Make sure you don't have any background apps that could be taking up resources that the game needs. The game has a pretty large RAM requirement (8 min/16 recommended). If your PC is only just above 8GB then you will want to make sure your RAM isn't being eaten by any other programs like web browsers.

I have 24 GB ram and game runs great and all with a steady 45 to 60 FPS but just small freezes and sometimes its twice a minute other times there is minutes inbetween. Right now at the moment its every 15 seconds. Its completely random already tried different graphics settings but makes no difference.

I wouldn't call fluctuating between 45 and 60 FPS "steady".
Try to switch the game to fullscreen if you're running it in borderless window to alllow it to use all resources. Then try turning off the temporal anti-aliasing and tuning down the reflections and texture resolution

I run fullscreen and its not fluctuating big parks i run at 45 and remains at 45 and smaller parks at around 60 it doesnt really fluctuate at all. Its just the small freezes that happen and happen very random and irregular

What's your CPU? I have the new Ryzen and I had microstuttering issues in games when I was using Ryzen Master utility, because it was throttling cores, somehow. Since I've gotten rid of it, the CPU is running at full power, which isn't optimal I guess but the stutters are gone.

I have an I5-7400 3 Ghz 4 cores, never have any problem with any game but only with this game. Makesme wonder I have MSI gaming center as it came installed on the pc when i bought it last year it controls the fan and such i think would that do the same as your Ryzen master Utility ?

Well, you will have to try everything at some point if you want to resolve this, so why not start there.
I don't use any bloatware on my computers. Even when I buy a laptop, first thing I do is I install a clean system without all the crap manufacturers put in there. It's weird that it would only start making you trouble now, but you won't hurt anything if you try running it without all the unnecessary stuff.

I figured out that the problem is with certain animals such as the Ringtaled Lemurs and the Japanese Macaque, xit started when i made an habitat with Ringtaled Lemurs and it got even worse to a point unplayable when i also added a Habitat with Japanese Macaque.
Again what happens isthe FPS drops down to 1 and the fan inthe pc starts speeding like crazy then all goes back to normal only to repeat itself 10 seconds later. So there seem to be serious issues with these animals, may e it has to do with the climbing ? I really have no idea

Did more experimenting and went back to see when it started happening, it looks like its caused by downloaded habitat blueprints no matter which one i use it happens but when i build my own habitats no problem at all so its definitely something in the game causing it. I had it so bad with 4 downloaded habitat blueprints and game became unplayable with every 10 seconds a freeze and drop to 1fps.

This problem is still happening and I really have no idea why or exactly what ia causing the problem. I do know that the following helps a little and makes it so it happens less often but it still happens for short periods of time. I hope the Planet Zoo Devs are looking into it as i swnded them multiple saves to see what the problem is, i dont even have many animals yet.

Anyway this helps a little bit.

Steam Launch Options
  • Go to the list of games in the Steam library.
  • Right-click the Planet Zoo and click the Properties.
  • Click the Set Launch Options in the General tab.
  • Type or paste the following commands into the box in the incoming window.
-USEALLAVAILABLECORES -high

For the life of me i cant seem to figure out what is causing this problem it definitely is a game related problem which is not optimized, i been keeling a close eye on what my pc is doing and tried everything but it even happens on the lowest graphics settings. Been trying all the tips and tricks out there but nothing seem to solve it and its so random sometimes i can sit hereminutes without it happening and then all of a sudden bang drop to 1 fps and then back up to a steady 50 now and with a larger zoo i run at 35 fps steady but only those weird peaks dropping down to 1 fps randomly.

it may be during the auto saves. when it locks up look in the upper right corner to see if it shows its saving

Problem still remainsafter 1.03 Patch and even got a little worse and happens more frequent now. And no its not autosave because i highly doubt it autosaves every 10 seconds sometimes

It happens even if i have only 1 species and 0 guests and my zoo is closed, its also completely random and makes no sense at all as why it haplens, i can go an hour with it only happening once, but it can also happen like every minute or even every 30 seconds. Already emailed the team about the issue with a save game as i seen others report the same issue on steam and twitter and such so hopefully we do get a fix for it

After the 1.1.0 patch this is now much better but not completely fixed yet, i do have more freezes now when place down paths though and specially with placing them down by grid.
