The number of CTD's in this game is ridiculous

Sometimes I can play for 30 minutes before being dumped to desktop. Sometimes it's 2 minutes. Sometimes it's when the game boots up. Makes the game real fun.
Standard hardware. Super stable for ALL other games. Just nice and crashy for this one.

  • Intel i9700k
  • Gigabyte Z390
  • 16 Gig very fast RAM
  • NVidia GTX 1080
  • SSD's for disk space

Do you have any Overclocks applied and how have you tested them? Especially Memory OC is a thing that can seem stable for 50 programs over weeks and some app might sometimes somewhere stress the memory in a way that it crashes. It also depends on how sensitive the software you are running is to memory or CPU errors. Many programs might work as usual and a few others might just crash. I ask especially for memory OC since you said "very fast ram".

I don't technically have a memory overclock since I"m running my memory below its max spec. My cpu is overclocked however.

How exactly have you done you're stability validation for memory and CPU? Just because the clock speed of the memory is lower than the spec of the modules, doesn't mean that its absolutely stable with your memory controller. The thing is, that overclocking is a balancing act and one false set subtiming of the memory (tRC & tRFC subtimings are very sensitive as an example) and/or the overclock of the CPU might not work together.
