Water annoyance!

It's really annoying when you have to drain your water to clean up poop, but when you try to refill again the water level is much lower, I've had lakes turn into puddles!
I can't understand why it won't refill, when I haven't altered the terrain shape, just removed water using the tool.

I know it's a work around - but what i do is terraform the lake slightly so that water has to be calculated again when I go to put it back

I've had this as well, didn't know what was happening, then I noticed there was a animal in the way that thought it was still swimming. Moving him to a different place made me fill it back all the way up.

Rather than moving individual animals, just box them all at once in the habitat menue. Then unbox all, after refilling the water.
I think, this is the fastest and most elegant approach.
