Coffee is how much?

I was shocked... shocked I say, when I went to make my fortune driving coffee around the edges of occupied space. When the merchant told me the rate I was all "no mate for a whole standard unit, not a cup!" Seriously have these people not drunk good coffee? so instead of cruising round with my ship full of the good stuff I'm stuck hauling neo-fabris and polymers.
Also don't get me started on the price of tobacco what the hell where you going to be able to smoke on a station, outside?

Not all tobacco is smoked. Some of it is chewed and some of it is powdered and sniffed.

And you are, of course, free to smoke aboard your own ship if you like. Plenty, I'm sure, is shipped down to atmospheric planet surfaces as well.

What I really care about is Space Moonshine.

I believe that's called Leestian Evil Juice.

Sindewinder costs around 32K Cr, which (as far as I know) is more or less the price of modern car in US Dollars, so we can assume the exchange ratio to be 1:1
I just checked and price of coffe per kilogram and it is about 1.50$ (it varies, but let's make it that), which gives us about 1500$ per tonne.
In Elite you can buy coffe for as low as 950Cr/T and sell for as much as 2300Cr/T
I would say it's pretty close.

My favourite thread this week. Have you tried Void Extract Coffee? It's made with genuine comet water, in space. There are three other kinds of special coffee out there, but I wouldn't value them much above regular synth-coffee, besides the price.

Well, you can mix anything, but it's not always wise. Apple Pie Moonshine is my current top choice when drinking is afoot.

I tend to alternate between Kraken Rum and Lucid Absinthe myself, depending on if I'm feeling dark or feeling green.

But if Apple is your thing, I recommend Dr. McGilliduddy's Apple Pie.

You think coffee prices are bad where you are. Try ordering one in Iceland. Painful

Back in 1996 I went there for a second time. I met up with an English couple who were there for the first time in a cafe bar. He went off to get a couple of beers, and came back ashen-faced as he had been charged £15 for them.

Also at that time, a Mars bar was about 20p in the UK. They were £1 in Iceland.

Coffee costs just 1100 credits per tonne at my home base. Assuming that's more or less an actual tonne of coffee (since coffee doesn't need special anti-vacuum protection), that means coffee in ED, when sourced from a high-population planet where coffee is the primary export, costs just 1.1 credits per kilogram. Or for North Americans, around half a credit per pound.

And that's by no means the cheapest coffee around; EDDB currently lists over a dozen places where you can get it for under 1000 credits/tonne.

Of course, it can fetch more than double that, if you can find those desperate souls and be the first to sell them coffee.

I remember reading forums when everybody was like "yay, cowbells!" but I can't remember what it was all about. Drinking coffee right now. Imagine an earth-like world where the primary export was coffee.
