I am not buying DLC that costs as much as the base game its just not worth it in my opinion plus the game isnt good enough for me to spend that type of money on it .
I highly doubt that myself. ED may well get legs but I would be amazed if primarily ED isn't always 1st and foremost about flying a ship.My take on this annoumcement is that i think there will be an explosion of Salt next christmas as Elite ceases to be a pure space flight sim game and instead morphs into something very loosely like Warframe, but with a progression tree that means you start of as a GROPO (Babylon 5 reference), before having the option of learning to fly ships.
That is perfectly understandable and I think FD will be well aware some won't buy full price day 1. Most games work that way. The big fans will all preorder or buy day one (the ones who have not already bought it of course) everyone else can wait for the inevitable price cut. Eventually it will hit a price you are happy with (assuming you have any interest at all in the game and if not then I guess you would not be here?)I am not buying DLC that costs as much as the base game its just not worth it in my opinion plus the game isnt good enough for me to spend that type of money on it .
And "Free" for the LEP owners.New Era will be a paid-for expansion.
Nothing is free for anyone. It's just LEPers already paid for it. (Perhaps splitting hairs a bitAnd "Free" for the LEP owners.

Apparently it seems that you have not seen the quotation marks I put around the word "Free".Nothing is free for anyone. It's just LEPers already paid for it. (Perhaps splitting hairs a bit)

The future for Elite Dangerous is also exciting. Frontier is developing a major new paid-for release for the iconic space simulation which will dramatically expand gameplay and mark the beginning of a new era for Elite Dangerous. This will be characterised by significant new features to appeal to existing commanders, whilst being specifically designed to be a compelling, attractive and welcoming entry point for new players. Targeted for launch at the end of 2020, this major new release on multiple platforms will fall into financial year 2021 (the 12 months ending 31 May 2021).
Nugget indeed! Thanks Alec. This news is a potential game maker for me.Don't know if anyone's already mentioned this but I just wanted to highlight the coverage of this (the whole renewing codebase thing) on this week's Witchspace News (the always excellent weekly news roundup from the Buur Pit crew). This contains one of the clearest, best and most likely explanations of what's probably going on with the current Elite Dangerous codebase and the changes that Frontier have in mind.

Aaah, knowing FD and everything they've done so far regarding release dates etc., that'll be 202X then?![]()
I've heard that with hundreds of thousands of ARXs, we can get the DLC.The beauty of optional DLC is that you can actually decide if you spend the money or not indeed!
Fleet Carriers? ... Anyone?Regarding release dates FDEV actually has a really good record.
