Path, fence and building placement is unusable!

First of all, this looks like a really good game and I have already seen loads of updates for it, so thank you to the developers for their hard work.

However, I have not been able to get to that point because I find simply placing a nice path or enclosure is impossible with the current system. I know there is a grid system but honestly it's pretty poor and overcomplicated. Zoo Tycoon 2 and Cities Skylines both implement far easier and more intuitive systems for path / fence placement etc. especially Cities which has both a gridded system and a more flexible way of creating curves. Building placement too I think needs to have some kind of toggled grid system otherwise my OCD self just gets frustrated.

The chances of the pathing system or fencing system changing is slim to none.

The good news is once you get the hang of it, things aren’t so bad, and there are many tutorials to help you :D

Yeah, the pathing and fencing systems take some getting used to. The more you practice, the easier it will get... I also find it's better to put together the general pathing for a section/area of your zoo and build the fencing around it. There's more flexibility with fence placement vs. path placement.

While I don't think we will ever see a change to the pathing or fencing systems, one thing I do hope they fix in the long-run would be more specific "warning/error" messages that pop-up when something can't be placed. Saying that it's "obstructed" isn't all that helpful when it could be the terrain, could be proximity to something else, etc. If they could just make those even the slightest bit more specific I think that could go along way.

I will give it another go, but have spent a few hours in the game already just fiddling around with it. The system just doesn't make any sense to me and I've seen others say the same too.

I found some of the videos by PaulsLey on YouTube very helpful. I was also about to go insane more than once before I figured it out (more or less). Nevertheless, sometimes it does not make any sense. It can seem impossible to build a piece of road at a certain spot yet usually one can trick the system to snap two pieces of road (or barrier) together over the difficult terrain and sometimes it helps to turn off Flatten Terrain - sometimes it helps to turn on Flatten Terrain. I do not get annoyed by the system anymore, but I still end up deleting parts of barrier - building paths, and placing barrier in almost exactly the same spot again. I like to place the barrier gate first and allow its road to snap together with an existing path - I find that earier, but I do not build perfect square habitats. Good luck

Dear OCD buddy:
I found out on reddit a few days ago that you can make grid-friendly habitats by placing the gate first.
with angle snapping, your barriers will stay parallel to the path you attached the grid to.
This was a nerve-saver for me, hope it’ll help :)
