What other games are we all playing?

First thing that happened when trying X4 was the NPC taking off, me jumping in space suit and ending up in next sector somehow by jumping the gate in space suit.
Will wait for expansion - patch.
Tried War of the Chosen which I quite like. Got only couple of mods mostly about QoL and fixes. 1 dead soldier, but I'm reload scummer. Only ever used bondmate buff once, already in mid game and still no Psilab. It does play different to long war mod. I kinda miss the ranger gunners or wossname. But I like how I dont need to build every equipment - tho it seems inconsistent.
 
I'll maybe wait and go through the tutorials again, I quite enjoyed what I've played so far so if they are improving on the tutorials that can only be a good thing.

I got it from Steam (I just like to keep most of my stuff under 1 launcher if possible)

Never used Steam, but looks like that's about to change.
 
It's available from Steam, GoG or directly from the developer on the Egosoft site, but you'll get a Steam key even that way, sadly the game had no physical release.

Egosoft ditched their publisher a couple of years ago - they're 100% indie and 100% digital now.
 
Ah, good. Plane's celebration week is over, and I wont be grinding for five times XP. It's back to the usual double XP for first victory per aircraft, a threshold for me to not really want to play. :)
 
Day off today, so I decided to spin up Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for a few hours.

Pros:
  1. Good acting. Better acting than any recent SW cinema film.
  2. Interesting story.
  3. Fabulous environments.
  4. Tomb Raider with light sabres.
  5. Captures the 'feel' of Star Wars pretty well... including the incidental music.
Cons:
  1. It's Tomb Raider with light sabres.
  2. NO dialogue choices. The cut scenes are just a movie. In fact, you really feel as though you're just watching a (slightly) interactive movie most of the time.
  3. Crashed a few times for me.
All in all, not a bad game per se, but I'd like to see a proper Star Wars RPG rather than just a platformer.
 
Now eyeballing Evochron Legacy. Has anyone played this to date? EL is a sandbox, RTS Newtonian mechanic space flight sim that focuses on a lone wolf/pilot controlled/survival game play mechanic. As the pilot, you control your reputation, wealth, ranking, and game progression (in solo or multiplayer mode). So it's basically ED with its main buy/trade/combat/exploration loop features (and slightly dated graphics). But seems to have a better capacity for emergent game play. Especially based on a good mix of structured and sandbox features/activities. I'm really baffled why EL hasn't been considered a serious ED competitor, given these similar and additional features. Many of which ED is still missing out on to date as indicated in red:

  • harvesting resources (big advantage as ED doesn't really specialize in this feature)
  • SE sandbox style building of destructible stations/cities on planetary surfaces or in space. These buildings are multipurpose and can be used for docking, faction/solo HQ, storage, trade commodities hub, manufacturing/crafting ships/goods, etc. (another big advantage over ED)
Since launch, EL has retained solidly positive reviews on Steam and around the web. It appears to have matured very well to date. Definite buy once Steam does their Thanksgiving/Black Friday penny discount sales next week

A very detailed game, not the graphics, they are a touch or two lower, but for gameplay, who cares about graphics..

I loved Merc and have played some Legacy, but I really need to build my own ship now and maintain it. Unfortunately that is one thing these games don't really win at. No legs in Evochron apart from the 'walker', which isn't great. But if you like ED you'll love Evochron in my view.

The Evochron series is a great testament to the one dev that makes them.

Edit: Oh, and if you do buy, make sure to play the tut's.. :)
 
Still Warframe a bit, when I've got a little time in the mornings. Nothing serious but I have been working toward a few little projects in the game. Updates on the horizon.

Yes. It's genuinely mind blowing what ONE single, dedicated and super talented game dev can do.

Now just imagine what they could've accomplished if they had the benefit of four additional years and a $230+million dollar dev budget.

Think SPACE LEGS on steroids and HD quality definition graphics for starters.

I'm willing to bet if the dev could've included those 2 features alone, then EL would've long since attracted a significant herd of new potential fan bois from that-game-which-will-not-be-mentioned-here........ :LOL:

As someone who enjoys Tomb Raider, I see this as a selling point! Now if only Lara Croft was wielding the lightsaber ;)

This game is on my wishlist for a future sale (after patches and bug fixes).

This is why I put it on my pros and cons list.

Some people love this kind of thing. Me, I can take or leave it. I ran out of platform game juice with Jet Set Willy. ;)
 
I fired up ED today, only to be disappointed and log out 10 minutes later. This Evochron Legacy, is it multiplayer?

Yes it is both single and multiplayer. Just like ED and SE.

However, I refuse to answer anymore explicit detail. For the dread fear you'll abandon thy faith in SE. And go off on some heretic sabbatical where you will lose thy digital soul playing Evochron. And in so doing, jeopardize your immortal soul to eternal damnation from SE paradise.

But basically--what I'm trying to tell you is....I've never played Evochron. But it sure does look delicious (barring the outdated graphics and familiar ED like paraplegic state). :p

Think I'm intrigued by EL because it's the same gen game as ED (being launched around the same time or so). And so that gives me hope for the future ED 2020 update. If we don't get space legs feature, then at least something more feasible like
  1. atmospheric planets with POIs (even better with alien fauna you can harvest as raw mat resources for ship improvement or sale on commodities market. Space legs would make this feature so much more immersive than having to use the SRV)
  2. FCs (because I suspect the fan base will likely riot if they pull a Bethesda and cry wolf a 2nd time)
  3. customized station building (both on planets and on orbit). Which might actually give SE some serious competition. As it could keep a lot of Cmnders preoccupied with designing the perfect HQ for their play style and fleet. Would provide good emergent game play to keep ED players engaged for a long time.
Give or take a few more novel and immersive sandbox missions that EL currently allows you to freelance on. More challenging/exotic missions like repairing solar arrays and rescuing de-orbiting satellites from planetary atmospheres. But if FDev could deliver on those 3, then I could actually live without space legs in ED.

Cant wait for Star Citizen 3.8 to launch with at least partial persistence, that will get me back to SC permanently. 😛
While waiting for that i have some Hellion to play, as i started again from the beginning as it really is immersive experience, despite of its bugs and discontinued development.
And i'm only playing that to kill time until Starbase launches, that will be my time sink for 2020 along SC.

Good year coming for space games next year. :)
