Is frontiers well of black gold over now we have arx?

Just thinking about it, wouldn't a canny arx entrepreneur calculate that now you can get graphite for free, the appeal of midnight black is pretty much gone?

In the past, you would have to pay the same for both hence why not go for the blacker one. Now the price of the other brand is zero and they're always available.

No wonder they delayed releasing those... can imagine the scrunched up paper fights in their microtransaction meetings.

Of course.. if frontier did something to the black this year.. say made it.. metallic black.. that would be a whole different story.

Yeah sure. And its exciting for new players or if you haven't got any already. But the only ship i still use it on is the type-10 (mandatory to make that ship passable) that's it. Actually maybe the beluga too, but mines parked at robigo and haven't been back in a while.

Cosmetic buyers will always buy some and the non-buyers wont. The presentation of the buying method or some freebies will never change that.

Whales will always buy everything regardless.

Can't recall which ones but I've found I prefer Graphite to Midnight on a variety of ships.

The combination of two different dark greys often looks better than solid black.

Two that I can think of are the DBX and the Vulture, which both look better in Graphite (to me) than Midnight.

I think the point is, there might not be the same stampede to buy Midnight paint on Black Friday when you can buy Graphite paint, on it's own, at any time.

Course, all things being equal, I guess FDev will be getting the same amount of sales regardless of whether it's Midnight or Graphite paint that they're selling.

Be interesting to see what the Midnight paint costs, though.
IIRC, the Graphite paint is quite cheap and it's the sort of thing you could easily buy with your free Arx.

Yeah i thought that too over time. There's way less "exclusivity" to the graphite but if you want a black skin for a good number of ships graphite looks better i agree. Black can look too clean because its a perfect black, so the ship has to match that in style maybe.

Sticking to freebies means patience. Which tends to be an all or nothing thing rather than something people dip in and out of.

I'm planning to flesh out my midnight black (freebie) for the uncovered ships with freebie ARX. Green lasers first though, which I've been meaning to get for a few weeks now. I could get the ARX by min-maxing today and tomorrow after the tick but I'm not that bothered.

Whenever is good enough for me.

Got the graphite paints with free Arx the other day for both my Courier and the Mamba. Former looks ok if a bit grey in certain light conditions, latter looks great with it.

As a result I can't justify buying the MNB paints for them, whereas I would have before. Already bought many last year, and while I do prefer them over Graphite, the fact I can get that for free now without buying the Tactical pack means MNB is very low on my desirability scale for this year.

Bring on the metallic paints for Christmas instead.

i am pre coffee so appologies if i am being thick however are you saying midnight black paintjobs are free on the store now? I think i have them already but may be missing a couple unless they are given out automatically.

No they were in the past. The first black friday ever I got 30 paintjobs for 0,- They were only 'sold' on friday. The next ones however they were not free anymore, so I guess its not gonna happen this year either.

The free ones came from a pre-order of horizons.
They're still technically free thanks to 400 ARX a week (but that's another can of worms)

No nothing is free like that. More that the graphite colours, which also look black, cost only 620 arx, so you can get one using 2 weeks free arx. 2 weeks is hardly a year long grind like for the more expensive items.

Yeah they were given away for all existing ships as a preorder bonus a long time ago, and newer ships have had theirs made available too.
