Large landing pads at platforms

This has probably been raised before, but here goes anyway.

Currently platforms have small and medium landing pads and that's it. If you're a new player group or an existing one that occupies a system that has a platform in it, you're limited to what types of ships you can use and the missions you undertake or the amount of commodities you can buy.

Can the player group or the NPC group for that matter not run a mini community goal that would allow for the platform to expand in the form of building a large landing pad for the platform. This can be done over a series of weeks or months even, where you'll get to see the construction of the new pad at various stages as you bring in the required materials to make this happen.

If you're wanting player groups to invest in their system and the game for that matter wouldn't this help?

What are your thoughts?

You are talking about small stations. Instead of asking for a larger landing pad please read the mission and do your research. Before accepting a mission.

No I'm not, I'm talking about expanding a platform to incorporate a large landing pad, no mention of stations at all, therefore trying increase the types of missions that can be taken in a system that only has a platform.

Do you know why platforms only have small and medium pads? If I remember correctly (and I am sure someone will tell me if I am wrong, hell I often am lol) the reason is FD wants the Commander to have to make a decision. They can use a large ship and move the maximum amount of cargo but only to stations. Or they take a hit on cargo space but with more destinations by using a medium or small ship.

Basically, if there were large pads on platforms, why would anyone use a medium ship, there would be zero need. As for the number of missions, that will stay the same, just will only be open to medium and small ships..

Indeed, this is why I wish there were outposts with only small pads too.

Two options:

1 - sort out a surface settlement (they all have large) by wheedling with F D.

2 - expand into another system

I don't think that the ability to add a large pad to an outpost would be good for the game - once one was built the clamour for more to be added would taint things.

I totally agree (rolls eyes), they should unlock Shinrarta Dehzra and do away with the requirement of having to have a permit for it and any other systems, and get rid of CR in game, because from day one you should be able to buy any ship in the game, and change the kill warrant scanner so whoever you scan instantaneously blows up because who needs weapons. my goodness.

The thing is, a small station is like a small fishing village, and you are asking for the addition of a container ship dock to that fishing village. I think the idea is that the system it is in, or location of the platform has no need of a large station with large landing pads due to low population or lack of resources so they never bothered to spend the extra money to build a full space station, just a small platform. Basically something a small mine with a few pieces of equipment rather than a mega-pit with it's own railways etc.

It gives a sense of variation in the galaxy, "wow this place is so small and quiet it doesn't even have large landing pads", type of feeling. It provides both a sense of feeling for a place and a space where small ships can be utilised effectively.

Totally agree and by extension it would be great if there were some outposts with only small pads - then we can have fun listening to all the peeps complaining that they can't buy a Cobra Mk IV .... ( evil grin ) ...

It's unoriginal, and kind of the point

A few here have raised the issue of wanting some type of base that caters only for small ships and I thoroughly agree and think I have the solution :D

FD have introduced these mega ships into the Mission board, but at this stage we are either defending them or attacking them. All FD has to do is design them to have only small pads, and then start running courier and data missions to them. Can be expanded gradually to include things repair/rearm/refuelling then limited trade. The assets are already in the game, FD just has to do a little redesigning!
