Manifesto: Anarchy is Good for All Commanders

It's surprising the number of times I've seen systems that normally get no player traffic whatsoever suddenly get a spike of anacondas as soon as a conflict is reported on the boards in other systems though. Like, people that wouldn't bother visiting the system ever under normal circumstances suddenly take an interest and swoop in, it's crazy.

Wars outside of one's 'pet' systems are fun, pick a side and have no worries about the other side falling out with you...
(for some obscure reason I tend to prefer supporting anarchies, dictatorships, etc. Rarely Fed or Imp unless no choice)

Also, I've not set up a loop like this yet, but somehow it strikes me that if you got two anarchies next to each other with different economies, some really profitable trade routes could open up. Anyone got any experience of this? The in-game trade price calculator suggests profits of around 5k/ton for some commodities but most of that gets eaten up and turned into a loss when you sell them on the regular black market.

Can you elaborate on this? Asking for a friend...

Basically - a lot of the most lucrative trade goods (narcotics, slaves, combat stabilisers, weapons, etc) are illegal in a lot of systems, and they're not illegal in anarchies. Black market goods sell for half their actual value, which destroys any profit you could normally get from trading them in a lot of cases.
Which seems kind of messed up to me. What was the reasoning behind this design choice?
