Please Help :(

How can I play this game. I bought and played this game back around July 2016? I remember the game worked fine for me. I stopped playing and haven't really touched ED since 2016. I bought Horizons yesterday ad now the game doesn't work? I also cannot find any Dev post responding to this problem as it seems to be pretty common. I have followed everything on the Frontier support page and nothing has helped. I have sent multiple tickets and I am not receiving any confirmation email that my ticket was sent. I want to play the game but it doesn't even seem like the game is working since whatever update broke the game for steam. Any help would be appreciated. I am at a lost for what to do with this Horizons purchase and how to make the game work.

Hello! What exactly is not working? Is the game not launching at all? Is the launcher not opening? Is there an error code? Does the game crash?

The launcher will start through steam. I can log out with the "options" and log in with steam like it says to do on the support forums. My frontier account says that steam is linked with my account. Yet when I start ED this way with that steam login I only get the option to play demo mode. I have tried everything on the support forums I think. So I don't know what to do now.

Try going into your installation directory and copy and pasting your launcher into the same location. Then open the new launcher and log in from there.

Do you mean moving it outside of steam into its own install folder? And just run it outside of steam?
Yes, it will run independently from Steam. Go into where it is installed (wherever your SteamApps folder is) and you should see the launcher. This launcher starts Elite Dangerous with Steam. If you copy and paste this launcher and click on it you will be able to log in with your Frontier account and run the game independently from Steam. That way, any Steam problems would be eliminated. If that doesn't work, there is a problem with your Frontier account or maybe the launcher is corrupted.

Yeah I think there is a problem with the Frontier account then. Because on the Frontier website it says my steam account is linked with the frontier website and is saying I have no games eligible for partner keys. I have 3rd party cookies enabled and it still will not let me submit a ticket.

Is it better to move just the ED launcher or copy all of the game files into their own file?

And while you're there check if Horizons is installed.
Do you mean from the C:\ to D:\ for example?
and the actual ED .exe?
sorry for the dumb questions.
No, just the launcher. Copy and paste it into the same place. There is a file called "EDLaunch.exe". Copy and paste it into that location and call it "EDLaunch-new.exe" or something and open it. You will have to log in again.

You don't need steam to start the game. There's no need to move anything.

If you can, do some screengrabs and link to them here (blank any personal info). It may help understand the issue you're having.

I bought it on steam. But I havn't played ED since 2016. So last time I played it the launcher was still working and I never had to link accounts.
Ah.

Did you buy a corresponding copy of the base-game on Steam to go with the Horizons DLC (that states that it requires the base game to work)?

From April (or so, I think) copies bought on Steam now require to be launched through the Steam version of the launcher.

I believe the problem is with the frontier account. It says that I have not purchased any games eligible.

I already owned Elite. I thought that I did not need to buy the base game again. I had to buy both for it to work?

When you open the launcher, do you get the option to 'play' any of the lines? There should be a box at the bottom giving you options of what to load? I know you mentioned the demo above, can you screengrab what happens with any other option?

The horizons option does not work at all. It says that it needs a update even though the game is up to date. The regular Elite launcher option is the one where when logging on through steam it says that i only have the demo.

Can you open the launcher outside Steam?
(try via the start menu, or whatever it's called these days)

Hmm, I am now out of my depth. I've never seen that before. If nobody else can help tonight I'll ping customer services for you tomorrow.
