Time to abandon it

If Fdev treated their community like NMS did, no one would leave. Heck more people are probably playing NMS then Elite.
NMS has gone from some what of a joke to an incredibly impressive achievement. That the Devs stuck at it pumping out dlc after dlc and all for free really shows a commitment which is rare these days. In some ways it is far ahead of ED, in others, a long way behind.... Both games are long term installs on my machine (I always promised the day NMS got VR I would bite..... And it has not dissapointed )
I don't play ED as much as I once did and I do have a fear that as the game goes forward some of the magic has been lost ..... But personally instill have fun with it and i am really interested in what 2020 brings. I am sure I will enjoy it even if ultimately it never really becomes the game I thought it would be back in the early days.

I'm playing NMS at the moment, its a nice game but its very very simplistic like FPS spore. I'm enjoying it in a laid back way (space game fan) but can't really see myself sinking the same hours into it as ED.

My pet gripe for NMS is that if you get ahead of the mission progression by just doing the logical next step you break the story campaign. You have to tear stuff down and rebuild it only when prompted or the game gets thoroughly baffled. It definitely doesn't reward thinking for yourself and the hand-holding is way way OTT for my taste. I like learning as I go, not being led by the nose.

That "Flight model" though, its sub freelancer 'fast' 'very fast' and 'straight line autopilot'. I can see why there's no HOTAS support its just not complex enough for one.

If we are getting space-feet from FDEV the bar they have to clear is pretty low.

But isn't it more like the developers of NMS had to come up with free and frequent DLCs after the disaster of the initial release where they lost the majority of their customer base? As I see it, the Devs there had a choice, work their proverbial butts off and churn out a playable game or dump the entire thing in the nearest recycling bin. Definitely kudos to them for turning the entire game around but they were in a completely different situation to FD and ED.

The steam stats for NMS are a massive launch thanks to the hypemachine followed within a few weeks by a mass exodus. They made an absolute mint on it initially though (AAA sales numbers according to the devs) so they can afford to sit around for the rest of their lives sub-contracting out the patches&DLC if they want.

This one is excellent.

After many years of play
okay ...
For years people have been asking for storage in the stations for the materials
have they? materials? why? Doesn't sound right ...
and resources collected, being able to walk on the planets and build outposts
have they? Asked to build outposts? Doesn't sound right (even if its now supposedly coming ... hmm)
add a videochat directly in game with the group's participants, as they are doing on Star Citizen
have they? wanted videochat "for years"? Huh.
make the planets with realistic textures and not all the same with a single color pattern
Um. Can I introduce you to a game called Elite Dangerous?
there is no capital ship where you could invite party players
This all rings a bell, but I just can't place it ... are you also wanting fidelicious trains and player-murdering doors?

Show me the glowing reviews by critics praising Elite as a flawless game.
Show me the overwhelmingly positive user opinions on this or that platform.
Show me the Baftas or other prizes won by Elite.
Show me Elite featuring on the now-common "Best Games of the 2010s" lists.
There are extremely few games ever made that were described as "flawless", so that seems an odd requirement. Anyway, here are the requested critic reviews:

His mention of capital ships means they cannot be discussing Star Citizen there - it doesn't yet have any - I assume NMS instead. The largest ship available in Star Citizen is the 890 Jump, which at 210m in length is roughly the same size as a Beluga (209m). Unless we're calling ships like the Beluga, Cutter, Anaconda and Corvette capital ships now too ;)

It'll be years until capital ships like the Idris, Javelin, etc are playable in Star Citizen (i.e. sometime after Squadron 42 launches).

I mean technically the beluga is a capital ship. The narwhal liner

I don't realy care about what people think of NMS as a game, you either like it or don't.
My personal observation shows me though that Hello Games turned a bad start into a good follow up.
Fdev is doing exactly the opposite imho, turning a good start into a bad follow up, things getting worse with each update.
And don't get me started about new true content, reprioritizing is one of Fdev's trademark if you ask me.

You might not agree with me, that's fine, I can only make up my own verdict and act accordingly.
When a game is no longer fun then it's time to move on.
Whatever Fdev is gonna do about the long scan times in fss is decisive for me whether I keep playing or not.
Of course I hope they come up with a good solution but I also take into account that they may not.
It's not like they haven't disappointed before.

After many years of play I think it's time to abandon it, in the end you realize that the game has too many limits that I hope will be introduced in the future, now everything is limited to grinding and making money and once you get the ship and build properly you have finished the game because everything only leads to making money and nothing else, everything brings you back to this.

I was getting to your place. I got triple Elite. I got at least one of every ship in the game. I got multi billions in the bank. I wasn't sure that there was anything left to play for.

Then Frontier introduced player factions.

I joined up with an Anarchist outfit. Met other players. Started building our own little empire surrounded by other player factions. We met with them. Talked with them. Cooperated with them and even fought with them.

We now are present in 23 systems. It's a totally different game. Give it a try.

I really have to wonder if some of you have read or watched the Roadmap for ED? You do realise it was a 10 year plan, right from the outset? And from what I can see, as someone who only bought the game back in July, they do seem to be a little behind the plan, but bugs are not always something you can plan for. Contrary players can also be a delaying factor. I like the concept of updates with free minor addons and major updates with serious addon content coming at a cost - reminds me of Bohemia's deal for it's Arma series and I've bought all that.

As recent buyer, I find the whole ADS/FSS argument more than a little funny.. The ADS still exists - it's called the Discovery Scanner and is a default item. And despite asking, no one seems willing/able to explain why I'm wrong.

The difference in ADS and FSS is only noticed when you're out in the black in an undiscovered system.

Apparently.

I don't do none of that exploring crap foo!

i can only imagine the number of citizens suffering door-related deaths in capital ships

Eventually.

I've gotten my money's worth from this game and I certainly don't play a fraction of the time I used to play. Been reading a lot more lately, something I enjoyed when I was much younger (digital books from public libraries are great).

I have no regrets and have appreciated the time I spent on the game and persons I've met via the product.

I won't belittle the OP, his post is representative of similar feelings that quite a few have expressed.

For those that are playing heavy, have fun, I know I did.

So you are worshipping a 5-year-old alpha game. When it completed you have to start all over. While Elite Dangerous is upgrading over time.

You also claim to play this game for years. Yet no post. Can we say Troll post? It not hard to make a login and log onto the forum.

I didn’t play Elite Dangerous for a while, but you pretty much said what I was thinking of the game.

I was watching someone play No Man Sky and even this game has more contents. The game is very arcade, but planets are alive

Elite Dangerous has a lot of potential going from atmospheric planets, cities, walking inside stations, more story missions, better Powerplay, more players per instance, etc.
Now for 2020 I don’t know if it worth playing since there are no game changing updates coming...

I kinda agree with OP.

I explore 95% of the time but once i do get back to the bubble or colonia i either do a few runs on another boring generic CG or grind abit more of my Deadly rank, This might last for 2 days then im bored and go explore again.

If you dislike exploring i can see why people put down the game. Shame no new content until 2020, I expect Cyberpunk 2077 will keep me busy for a few months.
