Question about data uploaded to EDSM

The question is, Does it take a bit of time (5+ days) to update your exploration data in EDSM? here's the reason for the question.

I recently returned to Colonia from a small trip. I found an area with a bunch of Helium-Rich Gas Giants so I began surveying the area. I visited around 300 systems in the area and found quite a few HRGG's. I didn't upload any of my data from EDD to EDSM until I returned to Colonia last Wednesday. Not because I'm paranoid about someone stealing my discoveries I just don't run EDD all the time when I play so I tend to just do batch uploads every so often. Anyways, None of the HRGG's I discovered are showing up in my exploration data on EDSM. When I look at my HRGG's it says I have 32 first discovered. While I didn't keep a good record I must have found 70+ in this region and those 32 are all prior discoveries anyways.

All of my other data in EDSM appears current such as assets, number of scanned systems and my exploration income. My flight log has all of the systems I visited during the survey listed but when I check them they list no bodies. I'm not terribly well versed with how EDSM collates all the data that is uploaded to it. I'm just being impatient and just want to know how many HRGG's I actually found during that survey. The real lesson here is I should keep my own records when I do something like this!

No, the data you uploaded should be immediately visible. Did you dock since you uploaded your finds that are missing, or not yet? There's an option to keep scan data hidden if you haven't docked (and thus, had a chance to sell) yet, and I think it's on by default. But if you have docked since, then something else must have gone wrong. How exactly did you upload to EDSM, with what software? (The surefire way might be to just use the journal upload on the site itself.)

Huh, strange. In my experience, it's pretty instantaneous. There's a setting in your EDSM profile that can optionally delay adding your scans until you dock. I'm not sure what it does if you uploaded after docking.

Ninja'd!

Thanks for the quick replies!

I have docked at several places since returning and uploading. I use EDDiscovery to upload data to EDSM. After uploading from EDD to EDSM the first time I tried it again and it found almost 7k journal entries that weren't uploaded. After that it would tell me there were no new journal entries. The area I was surveying all the system names begin with Dunee RB-N xxxx. That probably doesn't help but hey.

I will try the journal upload directly to EDSM when I get home to see if that fixes it, thanks for the suggestion!

A word about that...

I learned the hard way about uploading journals. DO NOT submit a whole bunch of journals at once in a single tab. EDSM will allow you to open multiple tabs, so after opening your first and logging in and beginning your journal upload, you can open additional tabs and get more journal files uploading. This is a MUCH faster process.

Thanks for the help everyone, I manually uploaded my journal to EDSM from the beginning of November until today and it seems to have fixed it. The multiple tabs were a very good suggestion.

I have gone from 32 first discovered HRGG's up to 202... a couple more than I originally thought!

I have been playing on xbox for a few years and I haven't had any trouble accessing and seeing my data on EDSM. I recently purchased ED for the PC and created a new EDSM account but so far it hasn't registered any of my travels (about 3 days now). Is there something I need to do to make this work? thanks.

On PC you need to either manually upload your journal to EDSM or use another program that can upload your journal for you. I use EDDiscovery for this although as I recently found out in this thread it isn't always perfect. I'm probably going to try and get into the habit of uploading my journal manually each week just to make sure nothing gets missed.

Oh! Ok, I'll see if I can figure out how to upload manually... I'll give that EDDiscovery a shot... Thank you! I had no idea!

To upload manually just go to EDSM, click on your little profile picture thing and go to "import journal". After that you need to find where your journal is stored. I believe by default it is stored on your C:/user/saved games/Frontier Development. At least that's where mine is and I never changed any file locations. If you are uploading a decent number of entries read the suggestion earlier in this thread from @LordFerret about using multiple tabs. It goes a lot better that way.

Alternately, you can use EDMC to upload data, if you want something more lightweight. But EDDiscovery has a lot of features that make it easy to track your activities and look up things you've done.

Guys I'm sorry to be a bother but nothing either of you suggested is working for me. When I went to download eddiscovery on GitHub I received this message:
Windows protected your PC
Windows Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk.

And when I located my Elite Dangerous file and dragged it to the proper place (it turned green indicating acceptance) but still read 'waiting for file'

Forget what I just wrote above... I figured a slightly different way. Instead of dragging the entire Elite Dangerous folder into the space I have to drag individual logs. thanks again.

Yeah, EDDiscovery shows up as an unknown app when you go to install it. You have to tell Windows that you're taking the risk. ;)

That's not a virus scan, that's a "the developers of this thing haven't paid Microsoft to say their code is safe" warning. It is correct, we haven't. We have published the source code and many of our several thousand users are more than able to read it and would be making a fuss if we did anything nefarious in it :)

I've finally got my dense brain able to upload/update. In regards to the eddiscovery it's not a matter of me refusing to proceed. My computer won't let me, there's nothing to click on in order to proceed. As a safeguard it locks me out. But it's all good now anyway. Thanks.
