Time to abandon it

I hate to say it but I haven't played in a month either been playing NMS instead and that is fun. For me ED is feeling like its stagnating as nothing is happening with anything in the game yeah we got a placeholder Golconda CG which is now over so now what?
I currently play RDR2. Still love ED (played a few hundred hours over the last 5 years) and jump in occasionally, but the next time I'll play it like a maniac is probably after the 2020 update. Other games I played since release are The Witcher 3, Deus Ex, PoE 1 and 2, and Greedfall. I think it's a good thing that there are other games we can play when we get bored or wait for new content. Looking forward to Cyberpunk... I never expected Elite to be my only source of enjoyment when it comes to gaming, so that's probably why I manage not to be negative about it.

You are hanging round the forum of a game whinging months after you ragequit because it was improved.

So you are not really a minority but more of an edge case.
Lol nice try and pathetic WK argument equal to "i'll tell you to my dad"!
I haven't rage quit nor i whine for months.
I rarely visit or post on this forum anymore.
I gradualy stopped playing over a year ago with very short comebacks and following news.

Btw, edgecases are die hard fans like you living in forums, everybody sees that so it's kind of funny when you say that to others.

I was implying you are overly obsessive about a game you no longer play and seem to resent other people being happier than you, rather than threatening to tell my dad who isn't really into video games.

But misery loves company I guess, its not like you can stop yourself being how you are.

If you are genuinely surprised to meet fans of the game in the games own forum you might need to work on having more realistic expectations in future.

Overly obsessive, you mean on yourself and this game, seems it is best thing that happen to your life.
Otherwise i don't see how can i be overly obsessive over game i played one hour in last year and check news once in a while.

It's funny watching WK brigade attacking above lol.
Get a life ladies!

So you spend more time on the forums for games you don't play than on games you do?

Get a life ladies!

Although can we talk about this "I know you are but what am I" response of yours? Honestly.

What's your goal, to come on the forums and tell people who enjoy the game, no, they shouldn't enjoy the game, based on your incredible experience of "one hour in the last year"?

Are you ok, can you read?
Go reread what i wrote about game, your obsessive white knighting makes you so sensitive about game that you imagine things.
Man this is funny😂, never believed i'll see this sort of ppl.

Anyway ED is perfect, no need for any improvement, yeah and those notty boys with constructive critic and suggestions shuu shuu.
Feel happy now?😉😁

From 3million copies sold you have 3500-4000 avg. playerbase from steam charts and lets say in best scenario twice as much from FD store.....so at best 10 000-20 000 active players.
So where are those 2980000 players, i guess majority quit after 50-300h when novelty wore off, leaving only space addicts and grinders.
So i think his argument weights a lot more than yours!
6 ppl i know quited after 50h mostly cos of grind game design and sterile space enviroment, saying they will get back when KS goals being achieved.
Elite is good game but gets boring quickly for a sandbox, but still it's a good game and worth money, hopefully New Era will be gamechanger.
If not, no regrets from my side, 300h were more than enough fun for 50€.

OP: Very nice and polite thread with some constructive criticism.
I stopped playing over a year ago (300h ingame) but with option to get back when New era pops in, depending on content.

Elite could gain much higher numbers if there wasn't grind design combined with 100% predictable and repetitive gameplay in non-dangerous enviroment.
Adding arcade MC and FSS popup screen minigame did brake immersion and drift away game from cockpit space "simulation".

Imo much better design would be if they implemeted survival features like other sandboxses have, when you die you start from scratch and build up faster than now avoiding grinding.
That way goal would be to survive in galaxy not farming money and buy yourself new life and high-end ship when dead.
On survival design i mean:
-you never know when enemy is going to jump you no matter what you carry in your ship and no matter where are you in galaxy so you need to run or fight.

-when ship damaged you need to find planet to land and gather materials to fix it and resupply (abandoned outposts and stations in orbit as well on planets could be also source of material.

-space enviroment itself representing danger and damaging your ship and it's systems, as well random ship malfunctions.

All this would bring excitement and struggle for explorers aswell to everybody else.
And if space legs are valid leak than even better regarding survival element, also add basic atmos and you have best game ever.
Gameplay and space enviroment shouldn't be 100% predictable with given decision to player will he engage into something or not.
Imagine every other game that enemy doesn't shoot at you if you don't shoot first or provoke him to do so.....pretty much boring.
Also engineers did ruined pvp for casuals, now pvp is grindmaster game.

Regarding FC, i find it meh with those landing pads, would be much better if they had huge entrance and hangar with ships laying next to each other and maybe animated maintenance on them.

Small chances i'll see this in ED but anyway when new things arrive i'll try them for novelty, i guess.
So, am I a space addict, or a grinder?! 😃

Who are the people that have asked for those things? I certainly haven't.

I'd like more pirates to shoot though. Ah, Frontier, if you're reading this, please add more pirates. I don't want any of the other stuff, but I honestly don't care whether it's there or not so eh. Do what you must. Or don't. It's fine.

But please, more pirates.
Stack your missions, seems to work for me (4 poor unfortunates in anacondas this morning).

Imo hanging around a forum of a game you don't play anymore is sad and obsessive. If I ever become like this, would some kind white knight just shoot me and put me out of my (and the other forum users*) misery! 🙄

*so they don't have to listen to my pointless bleating. You gotta think of your fellow human beings!

He can obviously read, he's replying to your nonsense. Tho why any of us is replying to a very obvious troll is the real question here. Think I'm gonna block me a troll! 👹

Like Skyrim? Wut? I'd rather craft 80 leather strips in Skyrim, enchant them and sell them than craft a single engineer tool in ED. The reason is: I get to find the stuff you need for crafting in Skyrim. In ED you either need to cheese it or break a leg to do it. I blame the world size and over-obsession with RNG for that.
Good to see you're agreeing with me.....

The game hasn't really progressed much (positively) in the past four years (IMHO), so it's not suprising some people are are growing tired of it. TBH, the amount of hours I've (& many folks) spent on it was/is epic. That said, I've been in a circling pattern having basically given up with it two or so years ago, diving in now and then for a quick view of what's changed (or hasn't). I'm now hoping at long last, next years much hyped update will finally see some bar raising gameplay/mechanics... Can but hope!

Star Citizen - Could it be it will actually end up being a reasonable and playable game? Can but hope!

No pressure but 2020 is 'the one' really.

For me 2020 has to be the last, final update to the core of the game (i.e. C + P, Powerplay, engineering, exploration tools etc) and be the unchanging framework for everything after (feet, FPS, bases etc). IMO EDs biggest flaw is that its being built as we go, which is trying to build a house on shifting sands reinforcing my view ED is not FDs true focus and is more of a garage passion project.

Hopefully one day we'll get atmos (lifelees basic ones are fine for me) and space legs which will change game completely, and if they add some random dangers from npc's outside bubble and across galaxy (scavengers/goids attack) and we already can gather materials to repair ships and danger from space enviroment it would make even exploration exciting and boil blood beside repetitive FSS popup screen minigame (which they need to make as part of the cockpit, not floating in space), it would add survival aspect to the game.

With all that i'll bet that ED would suit to wider style of players making it ultimate sandbox with over a million active players per month, and sales whooa.
Now only newbies, grinders and space sim freaks play, rest of us are waiting for "exciting news on NuEra" ;) .
So basically DB and FDev needs to remake/overhaul ED to look and play like Empyrion Galactic then? If so, I completely agree with this. Because if so, the expansion and immersion the space legs feature would add in terms of emergent game play to the structured mission and sandbox combat/exploration/trading/mining loops. Would be even better if the 2020 update could add
  • Empyrion Galactic style RNG atmospheric planets for all RNG earth like worlds in the galaxy
  • NMS style RNG generated flora and fauna (in ED graphics) on earth like and non earthlike worlds. With RNG POIs to encourage exploration like in NMS and Empyrion
  • Executive Assault 2 style boarding, invasion and capture of NPC and/or player ships and FCs in PvE and PvP encounters. Being able to build your custom space station HQ on orbit. Be able to craft/build/generate your own custom robots (at 0:49 to 0:59) drones that you direct and control to commandeer NPC and other Cmndr ships. Either strategically from your bridge or tactically leading them directly in a FPS assault in 1st POV. Now THIS is one space feature from Executive Assault 2 where ED could truly prosper since it has SO. MUCH. POTENTIAL. for adding emergent game play to existing game loops
  • Space Engineer style sandbox crafting ability. Give Cmdrs the capacity to build their own customized bases and interior spaces (basically anything!) But from an ED perspective, this would be limited to custom player HQs/bases (on planets and on orbit in space), harvesting resources/mats to repair, upgrade our ships/SRVs and store resources/mats in player inventories (for personal and other uses). Have Space Engineer ability to build defensive, customizable, safe zone shields around your planetary bases like shown at 17:13 and 19:44 in the latest Space Engineer Economy Update
  • Extremely light survival HuD elements that could be toggled on/off as desired by player. This would consist of several simple HuD bars or percentage meter indicators that would track player oxygen usage, require eating and drinking at least once per day (or player's health bar will be adversely affected), and sleeping at player's discretion (less sleep, the more the health bar depletes). Like this example of a simple HUD survival element mod in Space Engineers. Tracks your hunger/thirst/O2 use by simple percentages:
SEHudMod.JPG

Where the player can mine ice and build/buy a heater module to process water. Or harvest hydrogen and oxygen gas and build/buy a reactor to synthesize water. Or buy/craft a hydroponics module, add water seeds and fertilizer to grow fresh fruits/veggies in their HQ. Harvest this fresh produce and/or combine it with existing market commodities food. Combine these in a craftable/buyable bioreactor module to produce higher quality foods on your space station HQ etc. THAT would add tons of emergent game play to ED IMO.

Seriously, what's the point of trading commercial food items like coffee etc. when your Holo Me doesn't get hungry, thirsty or sleepy? Apart from the function need for the BGS, why even bother to RP/pretend the 2D menu based NPCs in the universe need any of this subsistence at all?
  • Subnautica underwater exploration for earth like planets with water bodies. With RNG POIs to encourage exploration and incentives to map the underwater portion of planets
underwater exploration in normal temperate zone Earth like worlds

underwater exploration on the promised ice planets (not as dramatic and eco friendly fauna saving as shown here, but you get the idea). Be able to make explorer income from underwater and surface exploration/mapping of marine fauna on ice worlds for example

  • Have The Outer Worlds type "space legs" where you never see your feet (or hands) but can experience full motion and world exploration from a fixed 1st POV. Take damage to your Holo Me health from falling//jumping above certain heights. Experience 1st POV hostile encounters with RNG hostile flora/fauna, NPCs and/or other Cmdrs using at least the primitive FPS style combat you get in The Outer Worlds (worst case) to CoD style FPS combat (best case).
But then again, FDev did go there trolling the fan base with the promise of FCs this fall. Or perhaps this delay was probably related to limitations in the game engine to accomodate Executive Assault/Space Engineer/NMS space legs features. So perhaps,

#LOLMostLikelyNotEverGoingToHappen

I disagree, there are a few games I've been playing for a very long time which I still find fun today. Master of Magic, Minecraft, Diablo II, for example.

A good game is always a good game, and some good games have nigh infinite replayability. :)
^^
This.
Skyrim, Fallout and PC version of RDR2 are perfect examples.
