Currently no way to edit or modify minor factions

Yeah yeah I know there are much bigger and more pressing things in Elite but no way to edit or change your minor factions once submitted and put into Elite. My faction/squadron/player group politics have changed and we've merged with another group. Would be nice to be able to change our faction name and government type plus allegiance etc. I've emailed support they say they don't have the tools to do this and I've messaged a couple of the dev/community team but I wasn't expecting replies anyway it's more of a technical or game support thing anyway. Anyone else gone through player group and faction changes and would like to be able to manage a minor faction submission?

From an immersion point of view it's only natural some factions would change over time anyway.

I quite agree that the BGS is too static and there should be ways for minor factions to alter their allegiance or government type. However, it doesn't make sense for players to be able to alter the BGS in such a radical way simply by emailing FD; remember that a PMF is mechanically no different than any other faction in the game and your "ownership" over them ends the moment they get put into the game.

This one.

Players are not part of, nor do they own any faction(s). (Even PMFs which players submit)

From a high-level perspective, the change between governing factions does this: Popular revolution against oppressors? Dictatorship government loses civil war to local democracy faction. Later corruption by externally-backed forces? A corporate faction expands into the system and takes control.

There isn't really a need in that case to be able to change the factions internally, since you just replace by one which is correct.

And you could really mess with Powerplay that way, too - start a PMF with a government type favourable to Power X, get that Power to assist you in taking control of many systems in their space to help their control ... then submit a support ticket to change to an unfavourable government type overnight and cause them serious problems.

IMO just choose an NPC faction & support that instead.
That's what I do. The problem comes when, as I've seen when I've palled around with them on occasion, player groups with PMFs get the idea that their faction is somehow "special". In a way it's understandable because a PMF's existence is an obvious indicator that the faction you're about to knock over is one that an actual player group might care about which means that one PMF expanding into a system where another is present can, and often does, lead to the respective player groups seeking each other out and working out an agreement, which is a courtesy rarely extended to non-PMF minor factions. Indeed, they'll often complain that they're being "griefed" if you push back against them in favour of a procgen faction, even if your group was there first.

Any group supporting a PMF who thinks they're "being griefed" when someone "hurts" the faction they support frankly has no idea what factions and the BGS are about.

Unfortunately, now that the "political" leaderboard exists for squadrons and is explicitly tied to having your faction support a particular faction, a squadron might have a claim that they're being "attacked" when you push their factions down.

imo it should have been tied to inf actions from the start regardless of faction, not all BGS work involves expansion and a lot of it involves preventing expansion

I support NPC factions with cool names, although I try to work with the power play teams on the basis that I wouldn't wish more leaflet deliveries on anyone and sometimes the choice of factions I can use in an area is extremely limited.

I've come across a few PMFs that appear to have been inserted tactically, or possibly naively or belligerently that are at odds with their local surroundings.

I can appreciate it's hard for FDev to take all the subtleties into account when they are asked to insert a PMF, personally I'd like there to be a way to remove them as well as adding them.

The political leaderboard scores don't require the faction to be particularly successful, though. Owning a station is pretty much a requirement for high scores, and controlling a system would be somewhat useful, but beyond that the actual faction doesn't matter that much.

Privateer's Alliance Expeditionary Force got a trophy in the first season from two systems with one surface base and two outposts between them, plus presence but no assets in two other systems. The description of the political leaderboard and what you actually get points for are pretty different.

I guess it's more annoying that it's set up only for people that want to tie their squadron to a faction and not all squadrons that play BGS necessarily want to do that - there are a few that support general ideologies rather than individual MFs and it's mildly irritiating that that doesn't "count" :p

Which faction in the BGS supports fixing the FDL's cockpit and Huge Hardpoint placement? I'm on board with that ideology.

I've been considering getting into the BGS part of the game, but I never knew there was a leaderboard for it. Or I did and forgot when I was away for some, who knows.
