Turret damage?

Trying to get back in this game I stuck two large multi cannon turrets on a Vulture and took it for a spin at the local CZ. They hardly dent the opposition? Have turrets been nerfed to oblivion or what am I missing?

Well, since the Vulture is the most agile ship in game, its probably the worst ship to put turrets on.

As has been said, CZ enemies got a small buff about a year ago, so you'll need some more firepower.

And if they use chaff, the turrets are worthless.

Try some gimbals, a vulture should have no problems keeping them on target. If they chaff, unselect target to get a fixed weapon.

MultiCannons are Projectile Weapons and hence primarily effective against Hulls, not Shields. Not going to do much damage against solid Shields, even Engineering gets them only that far.

Most turrets suffer from quite horrid DPS (combination of raw DPS, accuracy, unintelligent engagement ranges and lower rate of fire), making them less than stellar.

And on a Vulture, Turrets are probably the least useful Weapon type IMHO. It's more than agile enough to use Gimbals.
Not using Turrets is also much better for Ammo- and Effective DPS (Range) Control, as the Engagement Ranges can be manually controlled at all times.

Thanks for all the replies. Things have sure changed. I used to be able to do damage with a pair of large multi cannon turrets, but no more apparently. I suppose this means turrets are useless all together? I kind of enjoyed just floating about and letting the turrets do their thing. :(

I tried some medium burst turrets as well. No dice.

Are turrets now pointless?

I personally see them as niche Weapons, i.e. carrying a single special-purpose one (Emissive Munitions or Corrosive), otherwise some use a small Pulse w/ Rapid-Fire and Phasing Sequence as an annoyance on the Target.

I for myself don't run a single Turret on any Ship these days, just doesn't seem worth it.
(tried several times on large Ships but I always returned to Gimbals)

In very old days, it was fun using a heavy LongRange Turret boat in a Wing for lulz, as this attracted tons of Hostiles in a CZ for Wing mates to work off.
Conflict Zones have changed quite a bit though, making that approach far less useful than it used to be.
 
Turret damage hasn't changed, but turret damage has never been very good either.

I normally save them for applying effects, or if I need both triggers for other, more damaging weapons.
So if turret damage hasn't changed, it's the opposition that has I suppose? I tried medium burst laser turrets on shields and large multi cannon turrets on small and medium hulls. All vanilla of course. Boats are just shrugging it off.

Oh well. I'm not very focused on combat anyway. I'll stick with some random tourist stuff for now. Enjoy the sights. It's good to be flying again. :)

Most lower rank NPCs aren't much different either, though they tend to take defenses to fill those utilities and internals.

Anything Master rank or higher is likely to be Engineered, with an emphasis on defense. Higher rank NPC combat vessels can be quite durable, though generally still far below that of well-equipped CMDRs.

Not in general but they aren’t a good idea for a ship with so few guns as a Vulture especially if you want to fight in a CZ.
 
The only turrets I personally use are the experimental weapons against Thargoids. Since they don't exist in gimballed version, I use those. I will eventually try the fixed ones and check if I can "Git gud" with them.

I use turrets on beams engineer them and they'll eat shields. That and rail guns but those are only fixed. I use 2 sm beams 2 m rails 1 L multi and 2 h multis on a vette. Things go boom rather quickly. Vulture is kinda nerf'd by the fact that a lot of ships have better and more hardpoints. I even thought the fed assault ship was better tbh followed by the python and so on
