Newcomer / Intro Moving cockpit panels around?

Is it possible to change their positions to be closer or further away and more towards the front of the cockpit? Specifically the left Navigation panel and right Ship panel.

There's a lot of things in Elite which are really clunky and need some improvement.
The panel system is one.
Then you have the ship's 'dashboard' which has all sorts of little lights etc - none of which do anything useful.
Then you have the bright sunlight which obscures your instruments - because Frontier have never heard of window blinds or auto-dimming glass.
Then the radar icons which obscure the speed and the temperature etc etc.

We all really need quality improvements - what are we going to get - fleet carriers for the favoured few.

You could try changing the field of view (FOV) in the Options / Graphics menu.

There is one thing you could try outside of the game... YMMV

Got to: C:\users\yournamehere\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics and look for the file "settings.xml". Back it up first.

Edit the file by changing this line as shown:

<FOV>75.000000</FOV>

You can change the "75" to any value but I'd say 75 ought to be it's max to avoid too much fish-eye.

Thanks for the FOV tips. Unfortunately, it would be most useful in VR and FOV doesn't have any effect on VR, right?

Hmmm ... I dumped my Rift but I seem to remember that you could set your default eye-point (head) further back, forward, up or down - is this not so? (I might have been drinking absinthe back then though. ;) )

You can false center yourself, but I would like to bring panels both forward and in closer so I don't have to twist so much in VR. For example, the Eagle arrangement versus the Hauler arrangement.

There's a way of having those panels only pop up "toggled" wen you want em too. When in vr l looked left or right those damn panels popped up so switched to wen l want em up only....now all is calm in the universe ...yes Op ita a shame we can't move em

^ Yes, and even if not in VR, just using headlook makes them pop up. Can be quite a nuisance. The settings are located at -
Options >> Controls >> Mode Switches >> Looking at <Panel Name>
