Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

So if you could only get one ship, which one would it be?
Well I couldn't live without a Mamba. I haven't tried core mining in one, but I did it in a FDL once. Not very efficient, but "stylish" and definitely possible. Might have to try it in a Mamba before I decide 🤔

For me, it wouldn't be a joke. I love my Mamba, whereas any other ship is a tool. Some of them are very good tools, but the Mamba has some sort of character and soul that no other ship has.

Might have to try and see if I can mine the crystalline shards using some sort of hardpoint from inside the ship, and then have limpets do the collecting. A small Hauler might be perfect for that. Those mats fly high in the air anyhow because of the low gravity. If anyone has tried surface mining from a ship please let me know.
I would be very interested in this too! I would guess that an abrasion blaster might be the best bet, although I would definitely bring a mining laser too. The outcrops look a lot like surface deposits. This would open up a lot of possibilities.

I love my Sidewinder... I've been flying it around engineering it lately. It handles great in SC and fly amazing with dirty drive performance enhanced thrusters. I'd struggle for both jump range and any shuttling mining though... I might have to settle for my Vulture.

I just came back from a couple of trips to the crystalline shards, but I was considering rigging up my Phantom with some of the potentially useful hardpoints. When mining them from the SRV the tool you use is closest to a multicannon. I also need to figure out if limpets can collect the mats once they are on the ground. I need to engineer some more limpet controllers, and trade some of the raw mats I've collected to make room for more, but if I go and test it out, I will post my findings here :)

Some of the stuff you find on the ground at Guardian sites can be collected from your ship, I have managed it using collector limpets though the attrition rate is high.
Crystal shard sites could be trickier due to how many obstructions there are.

Is it possible to get surface mats using your ship instead of the SRV? I must confess I'd not thought of that but I was going try zapping skimmers at some point.

I was thinking about testing the limpets ability to pick up stuff from the ground, and since I have plenty of raw mats now, I think I'll go to Dav's Hope and see what that might bring. Perfect opportunity to test the idea with the limpets I guess, and alternatively I have found that driving the SRV with DAoff and not doing too many forward/backward/forward's keeps more of the semi digested food in my stomach. Yuck, that SRV does make the function of your digestion a little too obvious for my taste :)

I am finding that the phantom Denis is a new favorite.
Devastator of elite clippers, pythons, anacondas, drop ships, alliance foes.
Scratcher of paint for the heavy set commanders. And anything that stands still enough....

The build load out is here The Phantom Denis
That is some weird weapon setup you've got there! (y) Generally your engineering is interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Final post (I know )

Yesterday, I did some minor mods to my Mamba, after I realized just how much I love her. She can perma boost @642 m/s, which let's face it, is absolutely necessary for any welly outfitted explorers ship. It makes moons half the size compared to a standard paper plane.

She has a decent jump range @39.55 ly laden. This is a result of her low mass. She's also hauling a SRV, and a shield to compensate my optimistic flying style. She could have had a slightly longer jump range with a larger FSD booster, but that would leave no room for the obligatory maxed fuel scoop. She iddles at a temp ~27%, so she can begin charging the FSD while we're still within the corona. She's not the fastest ship in the galaxy, but no other ship feels this fast, and speed is all about perception (unless you got one of them thargoid thingies on your tail). No AFMU's or all that crap. She's a lady. Treat her nicely, and she won't need repairs.

Now I just need to save up the few extra ARX I need to have her fully chromed, top to toe. That will be the icing on the cake!

If you got the cash the proper connections and the mats needed, I can highly recommend this build. It's built to be fun to fly.

Given my fighting is exclusively done in a RES, is it worth sacrificing one shield booster slot in order to fit a KWS?
Oh crikey yes!
All them free credits.
Even with my crew and the local Interstellar Factor taking a cut, it still adds up.
Just got 12 mill from the extra bits.

I've been stacking all sorts of missions going to Ebor from Wolf ####, including pirate massacres.
By the time all the interdictions etc, are done, the massacres are nearly finished.

Nice payout, nice mats, Arx maxed out.
Obviously it's not mining money, but it's fun.

Ker-ching!

Well. you can't pick up mats at Dav's Hope using collector limpets. :( Would have been fun though. Next must be to blast some mats from the surface in the SRV to see if I can have limpets pick up those. If that doesn't work, I'll return the limpets where I bought them. Oh come to think of it, I forgot to bring limpets so I had to synthesize them. The high price of stepping away from routine...

Oh, yes...

When I hear "Thermal attack. Gaining heat", what am I being hit with? The ship feels like it collided with something.

To me it's as mysterious as "Frame Shift Drive operating beyond safety limits"? Seem's just fine.
