General / Off-Topic Rise of Skywalker ( spoiler free please)

I'm waiting for the reboots of the originals where PC Disney make Chewie a transgender and have him/her/it wear a dress......social commentary is Star Treks domain not Star Wars, Star Wars should be all about the ships, the fighting, the red lasers, the big ships, the green lasers, and light sabers. You shouldn't have to do too much thinking when watching a SW film and sadly that's all gone with the convoluted story line nonsense.

But I agree with those that say 1,2 and 3 are the worst.

1) Ja Ja Binks.....THE crappest character in the history of crap characters, utterly cringeworthy.
2) Should have had a VERY brief bit of Annakin as a kid right at the start then get him straight to the age he is in 2 for the parts with padme, because the age jump from 1-2 was ridiculous, or they should have cast an older actress for 2 and 3 as Padme.
3) the "love" story of Padme and Annakin was awful, badly written and badly acted.
4) "anni".....jeez that's a girls name fer gawds sakes, don't do that!
5) The "fall" from the light side into the dark was too fast and made no sense whatsoever.
6) R2D2s rocket jets that he loses for the "later" time period films 4,5+6.
7) The Pathetic kiddie voices of the trade federation robots.....I mean all gravitas immediately gone, they'd defeat people easily because they'd be too busy laughing at their voices to fight back
8) Basically aimed at kids. and most kids movies are tripe.

7+8 do a little better, but not by much. They're drowned in oestrogen, main lead female, ALL leaders female, stupid gung ho people ALL male.

BB 8 awesome though ;)

Oh and bad guys still all white and mostly British, racism much? Oh apart from Finn, who immediately defects.

I recently rewatched the prequels and aside from the jar jar rubbish and some ropey poorly scripted romantic story lines I felt that they were enjoyable movies that did a decent job of setting up for 4,5,6 movies. They could have been better of course but hey.

On the other hand any emotion attachment I had with the franchise has died utterly with the recent movies. Too many things to mention with out going full rant, but jeeeeez those movies are damned poor, the characters are poor, the story is dismal poor, the plot is just.....I dont have the word without triggering a ban here.

Absolute rubbish. I wont be paying to see the final one.

The best of the non original movies so far for me has been Rogue One. It did a far better job of capturing the SW feeling for me than any of the others so far.

Both recent trilogy's are crap compared to the originals...well apart from the Ewoks (WHY GEORGE WHY?!!!!). 1,2+3 are too kid orientated, 7.,8+?(not seen it) are too SJW orientated. In hindsight both as crap as each other!!

Agree about Rogue one though, I've always been more interested in the SW universe WITHOUT having the Force or Jedi/Sith rammed down my throat. I liked Solo as well (apart from the monster in the Maw (fer gawds sakes, almost as bad as the Sarlaac changing into the Venus fly trap from Litle shop of Horrors.).

I just saw it a second time. I think it’s great. It expands and answers several plot holes from the prequels about the Sith and Jedi.
Looking around the theater and seeing 8-14 year olds laughing, cheering and fist pumping the air at key moments reminds me of what Star Wars has always been about. They were me during the originals in the theater. I’m 46 now and I still love it.

The latest star wars is an unmittigated disaster. Its a complete mess.

I had my issues with The last Jedi but thisfilm, its just mindless garbage. No sense of adventure. The story telling is absent. Huge plot holes litter the film. It completely destroys the legacy of the original star wars trilogy and the sacrifices characters made in those films. Mcguffins everywhere that make no sense. The exposition is awful, an old saying is show dont tell, this film is full of dialogue spelling things out.

The Mandalorian on the other hand is excellent. It feels like Star wars, which is understandable, as its very much routed in old Saturday Matinee shows like Flash Gordon which Star Wars itself took inspiration from.

Sounds like most JJ Abrams movies and TV shows.............

Enjoyed it.

It has it's problems fer sure and it is easy to criticize, but if you can get past the Star Wars hate train it is a semi-decent watch.

It sorts out a lot of what TLJ mucked up and it adds some much needed character development.

It packs so much in that it doesn't get time to breathe and I wish the antagonist had been given more space to develop, but the film had to cover a lot of ground to undo the mess left by TLJ.

I disagree with your post. It's not about hating SW but the fact that Abrams is not the world's best filmmaker/storyteller...... full stop.

Aye you can not like it and not be on the hate train.

I think many people are though, anyone who touches social media is likely going to be watching it ready to pick it apart. There is negative context to Star Wars now, what with TLJ SJW, left/right , Rose Tico and so on, people poised to slag it off prior to watching. Also of course there will be lots of clicks in hating on it too.

But yeah of course it's possible to dislike it, as I say there is a lot to criticize. Overall I enjoyed it.

Not about hate, more like a continuously rant, the reason a lot of fans are frustrated is because of the really thin storyline, how they (Disney) tried to change the canon and failed flat on their face. It’s not because their is a girl in it, it’s because the way they chose to illustrate her, it’s just silly and plain stupid, just like Jar Jar Binks! A stupid character, sometimes Lucas got a brain fart but we could look beside that, here we can’t look beside it because wherever we look, it’s just more stupidity, plot holes and spoon fed PC.

and here we are, a very good showcase, money even truckloads of it can’t turn 💩 into gold, talented people are not always those in charge, sometimes it’s just those who rub shoulders with the top brass that get the job...

I agree with a lot of this. But if it can be put aside I think the film is enjoyable. Yes the new film has plenty to criticize, but as I say it fixes a lot of the issues with TLJ and the main characters finally get some much needed character development.

I think it's possibly the best film out of the last three, though it is hard to be sure without rewatching.

If people enjoy the movie all the power to them, I simply just keep... what? And why? Oh that was silly! I had issues with the prequels however it was watchable, the Disney version was just plain nonsense, I enjoyed Rogue One but that was it, SOLO was also something that got deleted pretty fast.

Yeah Rogue One is a master piece compared to the rest of The Disney Rubbish.
I like the Rouge One too.

I have to say though, the last movie now, it's decent. It's not bad. It's definitely better than ep 7 and 8, in my opinion. There's a lot happening in it so there's no time for the brain to store the events into long term memory, so what was funny when I asked one of my kids the day after, he referred to a scene in Mandalorian and didn't realize it. We had to try to remember what really happened in Ep9. So much that it got jumbled.

Other than that, I liked the story itself. Many plot holes though... again... but didn't offend the Star Wars lore and world too much.

With that said, I'm also glad it's over. Finally it's done. Don't want to hear or see another Skywalker saga episode again.

More Mandalorian though. It's a great show.
