Autoresolve OFF!

Now some folks here know I'm not too keen on the FSS but that isn't what stops me playing the game now, I cannot play with Autoresolve giving me money and tags, I don't want anything I haven't earned.

So, I suggest that there should be an Autoresolve ON/OFF button or setting in the config or choice in options.
I understand that it was introduced to smooth the waters for the introduction of the FSS but not why it was compulsory, there is no reason to have an obligatory carrot for the stick that FDev beats us with every time we honk a system, we never got gifted tags in the old days with the ADS/IDS/BDS that some here consider overpowered so there's no reason to do it now.

Please FDev give us an option to switch off the Autoresolve.

I don't know what "autoresolve" is, but there has always been a passive scan radius for discovery scanners.

Yes there was always an auto-resolve or passive scan for close objects without using the ADS. What it didn't give you were tags and money, you still had to use the DSS to get that even for stars, you still had to target and point at them. For most non-stellar bodies it's still the same, for all stellar objects you now automatically get tags, and that's not really a big issue for me because you were targetting the star you arrived at so of course you should get it. Other stars in the system, well that's probably a given, all you have to do is look out of the canopy to see them. I am not sure if nearby smaller bodies get tags automatically, I suspect they do but I'm not sure on that, it would need testing.

Of course that's if you didn't have or run your ADS, you got monetary rewards if you fired up your ADS but still no tags unless you used the DSS.

Yeah guys I understand that, my method of entering a system is at 'full chat' pull up 'still full chat' and skim, honk while following the curve of the Star... looking out for the exit to the next jump point, then just as I get the message about heat (80%ish) I have sufficient for the jump and head for the point and spool up the drive... only then do I check the map (the pretty picture) to see if there is anything that interests my brain, if there is I'll cut the jump and do the lot never will I leave clutter, if not then I'm away taking nothing with me!
it's impossible to do that now, and NO I don't enjoy doing stuff any other way, so allowing me to remove/turn off the autoresolve would for the most part allow me to play... perhaps even to buy the expansion and crap from the shop.

I am strongly against your idea. I understand you want your name only on really interesting systems BUT once you jump in the system is generated and fixed.

And I WANT to know I'm the first one there, so I WANT your name on that star. Also I definitely don't want to go back to the times I had to stop even for tagging the star.

Well,
I'm strongly against your idea... the one that you demand to know you're the first... you don't know if the other guy has just left and is headed back to the bubble, and for 3-4 years it's been this way so you in reality know absolutely nothing even now when you enter a new to you system

Now your accusation that I want my name on really interesting systems is total b s... yup, I don't really want my name any fikkin where, much less on half eaten crap discarded in a park, No I'm not the narcissistic entitled more faster more person that you come across as,
In the real universe they've already been generated and it weren't just for you... get used to it, I understand that you wan't to feel special and that the system was made just for you... but it's not even remotely likely that you can be sure and you never will be, there are guys that have been out there since day one in the same sidewinder and not been back yet! whatcha gonna tell them... get back to the bubble so you can see how special you are?

Beware of the "Target too close" Problem.

I'd hate to hop into a new System, only to find out I have to travel some 30Ls all the time, just to resolve anything that was too close near the main Star - including that very main Star.
It's already super annoying when there's a body-populated B Star very nearby, luckily that's a fairly rare occasion.

For all I know, the Auto-Resolve currently fulfills a very important function.
More than once I had to physically fly to some 40Ls-50Ls distant populated B Star to resolve its Objects, since the FSS refused to zoom in on anything (too close). The Auto-Resolve was my only useful tool then.

I don't think that's how procedural generation in Elite works.

Nope, the details of the system are fixed in the procedural algorithm.

BUT once you jump in the system is generated and fixed.

Yes the system is generated for each player as they jump in, any hand made resources are loaded from the database, as is player data for players already in the system, but essentially the system is fixed when the stellar forge is run not when the first player enters the system, the only way to change a system is for FDEV to make individual changes by hand, or to rerun the Stellar Forge with a different seed.

I see no problem with a player not wanting his details on a star or system, it won't change the system at all. The person who discovers the system is the first person who reports it regardless of who first jumped into that system. Exploration is a two pronged affair, getting there and getting back to tell people you got there. That's probably the main reason I have always been against remote stellar cartographic updating, even the codex feels a little bit cheaty to me. But if a player chooses not to record their discovery that's fine.

Currently I guess the only way to do what Skip Rockbounder wants us to basically either never sell data to universal cartographics by just, well, not selling the data, or to self destruct when coming back from a voyage and thus not having data on board to sell. I suppose an abandon data function could also do the trick if FDEV were willing to develop it, but it would need a lot of support from players and I can't really see that happening, there just isn't the demand to throw away money like that.

Yes... I did the self destruct thing with a lot of 'legit' data accidentally so my trail got cleaned, but the unfortunate thing about it was I didn't get paid and the ugly truth is we need the credits to get the stuff we want,
I know that some of you may think it unreasonable for someone to not want welfare/charity/unearned income but there are folks that take the attitude of life into their games and want to earn and to be seen to have earned what they have, I don't like being gifted something simply because I'm there... I earn in life and I earn in game.
And the autoresolve off would allow me to choose.

I dont think this is an actual issue for anyone other than you.
