The obscurity of our beloved hobby...

Perhaps :)
Playing through those "Golden Years" of gaming was an adventure in itself, 100 hours or more in an Adventure game wasn't too unusual, the puzzles were generally mind-numbing (Here's looking at you Myst, and later Riven!) and gameplay was to the fore.
What we have today is amazing in comparison, no complaints, but the journey to get here is to be savoured 🍻

Forgot the name, but there was a third part too, yeah we played all three.

Know what, looking at the stuff they do today, I think back then there were many more creative minds programming games. As soon as really big bucks took over, I think the quality went in a different direction, a lot of stuff redundant titles, another shooter, here another shooter there etc.

Guess the weed was better back then. LOL:)

Apparently there were 5 Myst games!
I missed the last 3...

Those where the days that computer-gaming itself was a niche and we were the weirdos who stayed at home and not playing with the other kids at the playground. (Altough that's a totally false statement).

Guess the weed was better back then. LOL:)
Please be VERY careful right now!🙏 But...No it wasn't...trust me. ;)
We should stop this!

It (& Riven) was heavy on lateral thinking, and quite frustrating until one 'got into the programmers head', then it became marginally easier to work things out. Perhaps the toughest games to finish I've ever played.
Then this was the reason I didn't dig this game. :sneaky:

:LOL:Ahhh well, memories...

Counter Strike LAN parties, overclocked Celerons in mini tower PCs with extra fitted carrying handles and a pair of Voodoo 3DFX cards… sigh

Or first "network" gaming… Doom with a serial link cable… (y)

Am I a Nerd ? Well maybe, maybe not... :geek: but I'm somewhat proud of being called "the oldest gamer he knows" by the son of good friends of mine…

Edit: P.S.: about Elite... no, not really, two friends of mine played it for a rather short while but not any more...

This is a very nice thread to read through if you are of the older generation. My first computer was a Radio Shack TRS-80. That lets you know I've been around a while, plus when I was in middle school my mum worked at a bank and I had to go with her at night to run the punch cards through, and OH Boy I remember when a card would mess up (for whatever reason), not a good night.

I've played about every game out there since Pong or whatever it was called where you moved a line back and forth to return/intersect a flying pixel. Nuff said. GL HF Commanders

What is this monstrosity? The stick needs to be red! :D ;)

But yea, this stick was a good friend during my C64 times. Especially once i found out that i could buy fitting micro-switches at a shop for RC and electronics tinkerers this stick reduced my gaming costs a lot. (Replacing a joystick once a while is quite an investment when you're in your very early teens. )
