"Gameplay suggestion" != "Problem I'm having in game"

Yeah, but still related to.
I think OP's main problem is they cannot separate criticism and solutions from any other answer. That if it's not positive, it's not a thing.
i.e. "It's dark, we need lights"
"Try headlights/night vision"
"Don't tell me what to do"
That seems to be the basic spirit of it all.

No, your problem is that you didn't understand my complaint, and you didn't even consider that maybe you didn't understand, so you decided that it wasn't you who didn't understand me, it was that I was confused about something that you do understand, and you therefore would "help" by explaining it.

When really all you had to do was realize "hey, I don't understand this", and ask for an explanation.

You ran into your own ignorance about what someone else meant, decided your own ignorance was actually their ignorance and then, in your ignorance, arrogantly tried to explain the wrong thing.

So yeah, I got annoyed when you all did it here, because it was literally the exact thing I was complaining about.

He might not have known what "!=" ment. It's rather specialized knowledge. Easy to mistake for a typo for someone not familiar with it.

Fair, I guess. But like, why not ask?

Why do so many people, when encountering something they don't understand at first, have to assume that their confusion means they do understand, and the other person is just wrong.

Like... What a way to go through life... o_O

The point is, in that example, someone is just saying "It's dark". You're assuming that means they think we need lights. Don't assume that. All they said was that it's dark.

So don't tell them to try headlights or nightvision. They are aware of headlights and nightvision. They were only saying it's dark.

God forbid someone could offer a tip someone may not know about.
"That step is high, I can't get up"
"Need a hand?"
"HOW DARE YOU!"
This is how you're posting in a nutshell.
I didn't see you complaining in your other thread where I gave extra info on the Dark Wheel but what do you know, outrage can be selective.

Why do you assume they're aware of those things? Maybe they're newbies who just don't know?

There are newbies, yes. But going around life assuming that everyone else is a newbie and you need to teach them is condescending and rude.

Especially when they preface their "it's dark" with "I know we have headlights and nightvision, but...", which happens plenty of times.

A statement is not question. Even newbies know how to ask questions.

When someone says "it's dark", and it is, you can just say "Yep, it is." If they want help seeing, they'll ask. Then you can point out about headlights.

Most of the time though, in rushing to show how knowledgeable they are, people are just missing the cool thing the first guy was trying to point out about the darkness.

It's ok to not take everything as an opportunity to flex your knowledge. Yes, it's dark.

So, I don't know exactly who all of you need to understand this - but I know it's a lot of you - so here's the thing:

Someone making a suggestion to better the game doesn't mean they're saying "I am having this problem with the game, and would like to no longer have it."

What they're often saying is "This thing would be fun to have."

Telling them another way to accomplish something is utterly pointless. Trying to claim they just want an "I win" button is trite and idiotic. Mindlessly posting "you need to make hard choices" doesn't make you look smart or like a grizzled veteran.

Good god people...
While this is often true the problem is that sometimes it isn’t.

Sometimes the suggestions while not an I win button would serve to negate so much of how the game is played that they would be almost as powerful.

But however good the suggestion is I often wonder why if it was serious there isn’t a link to where they have posted it in the suggestions forum.

Honestly, I was being polite then.

But it's been people "pointing out" obvious things all day.

There's a difference between "Need a hand?" and "Actually, it's not that high, you can lift one leg, while standing on the other, and move it over the top of the step, then put pressure on the higher leg to raise the lower."

That's totally legit though. "I dislike that suggestion because it would negate these gameplay mechanics, which I value" is a useful response which can further genuine conversation and discussion.

What often happens though, and what I was referring to, is people just trying to claim "I win buttons" as a way of shutting down conversation entirely. It's lazy and it's arrogant, and people should stop that.

The problem is that humans tend to lazy and arrogant, that is why the opposite character traits are regarded as virtues.

That preface wasn't part of Nasc's example.

I am aware of that, yes. We're all aware of that. It was obvious.

I still wrote what I did, because I've seen countless posts on these forums, from myself and others, that literally start out with "I know about feature X, but..." and the replies are inevitably a flood of "Actually, there's a feature X..."

Nope, they're not saying "it's dark". They also say "we need lights"
And in this context "lights" will affect everyone else.
While the "headlights/nightvision" will work only for the OP while the rest can enjoy the darkness.
Not to mention that the OP might even not know about headlights and/or nightvision.

I may be trying to read things into the OP that are not there, but hey, everyone else is.
Maybe the problem is more like:

"Its too bright"
"Try closing your eyes"
"erm. Thats not really how I want to play"
"Pah ! Noob ! If you cant play with your eyes closed, go play NMS"

When they also say "we need lights", those are not the times I'm talking about. You can tell this, because I specifically said I was talking about when that is unsaid.

I don't really know what you mean, but I appreciate that at least you understand that people keep inisting on reading nonsense into things. :)

What they're often saying is "This thing would be fun to have."

fine.

Telling them another way to accomplish something is utterly pointless.

no, it's not. if it were, then anybody's opinion on what would be 'fun to have' would be equally pointless. it's called casual conversation, it's why people post opinions in the first place, and everybody has more than one. if you didn't go immediately defensive you would realize alternatives are just opportunities to change perspectives, which is the basis of learning. of course, stimuli may vary greatly in quality but ... you never know until you process them!

When someone is making a suggestion, that's a solution to a problem that poster is having.
Some of the posters are going the extra mile and try to conceal the problem by denying it's actually a problem for them and instead they go: "it would be more fun to"
