I'm currently cruising around in the NGC 6357 nebula, and I came across a Cobra piloted by "Juliet [sic] Andromeda Mao." Apparently, she's a character from "The Expanse." (Haven't watched the show.) She only appears in supercruise and disappears once you throttle to zero. No idea if you can pull her over, I don't have an interdictor on my exploration Phantom. Is this a known Easter egg? I thought it was pretty neat. I imagine a fanboy / fangirl of the show must have a blast finding her. System is Cl Pismis 13.

I'm not surprised to see the name in-game, there are of course lots of npcs (and stations) that reference other sci fi. What I am impressed with is that they also gave her a correctly-named ship.

If you were a kickstarter backer you could put your name on an npc (or something like that), so it's a player who came up with it. Lots of those npc names out there. From Elvis to Albert Einstein to Patrick Stewart and pretty much anything you can come up with.
Also, this is a player (hollow icon means human player) like Corlas said. There really are some funny npc names out there though.

Hah, well spotted to all those who pointed out it's a player - I didn't even look at the radar.
I thought it might be a player, and I'm aware her ping is hollow. But why would she disappear if you throttle to zero? The whole flying pattern was erratic, her hull is at 67%, and she didn't respond to hails. I thought it was just an NPC put in to look like a player. But probably you guys are right.
If you drop to zero, and drop out of super cruise, she'd disappear, then go back into SC, if she is still in system, she'd still be there. In my experience, most players don't respond to hails. I usually don't as I am too busy flying to type anything.
Well apart from the hollow triangle, isn't the CMDR title a dead giveaway? I doubt there are any NPCs who have a name starting with it, in order to avoid misunderstandings.
As to easter-egg names for NPC's, there are tons of them. Chris Roberts is always a fun one to come across.
Yeah, I was recently hired to kill a pirate named Leto Atreides.

After watching the show and reading half the books so far, I can confirm. The watching the show in particular had me covering my ships in multicannon turrets and rail guns
I like it too, but it is a bit unfortunate that it basically has no real competition (as a TV show, plenty of books around of course).
