[Video] January update, was this what we ASKED?! & Fleet carrier delay...

OK, so I imagine:

missing icons

CTD issues

CZ black screens (not me nodding off in them)

Network problems

MC problems (like, all of it)

BGS exploits

Powerplay exploits

Badly made skins

Models that clip through themselves, or station parts

Missing sections of models and gaps

Typos / descriptions / lore badly written (as in syntax and grammar)

Game balance issues

Supercruise issues (juddering on interdiction like you are fitting)

Incorrect ship states on surface bases / sizes

Exploitable C + P

Wing bugs: missions almost impossible sometimes

Mission bugs (NPCs not appearing, doing odd things)

Security ship bugs (mainly from NPC wings)
You really get your knickers in a twist if someone disagrees with you huh.

Never said there wasn't bugs, just some here imagine said bugs are far worse than they actually are. Some here say a certain bug is stopping them playing the game, others say they haven't experienced the same bug or it is just a very minor inconvenience - who do we believe?

Have'nt really played for going on 6 months now popped in yesterday and was rather meh! Not much has changed only about 40% of fixes from list an bug reports have been fixed....i get all the this is what we asked for but IS IT?

Both. Bugs are often not universal, and can affect people differently due to non-identical configurations/setups.

True, although that is very dangerous ground here in DD. Several times I have been accused of calling someone a liar because I stated I had not experienced the bug they are going on about. Apparently the mere fact of me saying I hadn't experience the bug is the same as calling the person complaining about the bug a liar. And no I wasn't being condescending just stating a fact and in a polite way (for a change evidently lol) :D

Well, you did ask about them. Seems only honest I list them.

And that I'm not imagining a stable game becoming a basket case because of lack of testing.

You can only take people at face value- I'm simply stating what happens when I play and be as honest and open as I can.

There are many bugs discussed in the forum as 'game breaking' that I have never seen, even consoles appear to have the same situation (despite alleged identical hardware) where one player is affected and another not!

It is very strange that a string of commands (essentially all our game is) and 'chunks' of graphic code, doesn't behave on every machine identically, but that is exactly the scenario. The best we can hope for is that whatever 'breaks' things for another doesn't affect us. (selfish, I know!)

Let's see what today brings with January Update Patch 1...

The problem for me is I have two installs on two PCs and both have the same problems, suggesting something beyond the PC itself. When I beta test I flick between them when I can and its easy to spot when the PC is at fault.

Just that ?. Yesterday I was told I was a troll, bot, involved in suspiciously shady shenanigans and have only ever played one video game in my life for the dreadful crime of saying ED was more stable for me than Bethesda's notoriously bug-ridden (but fun) stuff.

The funniest bit is I was using a tyre to get a Brahmin down off a roof in sanctuary at the time.

2020 New Era is my exit point really. No Powerplay update and I'm off. I'm partially out the door now TBH after lore was stopped, 5 years of waiting for Powerplay, undercooked features etc.
Heck, Engineering was the beginning of the end for me (with how clunky its design was and how much it broke the balance of PvE and PvP)... IMHO, so little has been added of any joined up depth since planetary surfaces, and too much has been added which is questionable in design/outcome, or just a shallow bolt on, that I've found it hard to find anything rewarding/engaging in the game to attract me back.

I'm hoping the big update end of this year will finally see some bar raising mechanics and gameplay being (finally) added. But my spider senses are telling me we're just in for more questionable designs and shallow bolt ons... We'll see... Can but hope!

Engineering's great fun, I think its marvellous. I'd not hold out for DLC changing the game in any major way though, its more of additional stuff being added onto the basic package.

If you don't like it as it is you probably wont like it with some bolt on extra's as you'll still be playing those extra's in the same game.

I've been playing the BGS for three years or more. Seems absolutely fine to me, most of the time when people claim its broken they just don't understand how it works. Power play I just dabble in for the special stuff but again it works fine for me.

If you go by the forum the biggest "bug" with both the BGS and powerplay is one shared BGS, which in reality is working as intended. People just fail at pre-purchase research.

3.X BGS was dropped onto us with weeks of issues, FD are gambling the new states don't mess up the BGS again having not tested them live, we have strange VO / gem prices that are volatile to the minute, and we don't yet know what knock on effects they will have for other parts of the game. Not to mention we still don't have the new happiness expansion mechanic properly tested or even know if its in the game yet. Election bugs and influence were another.

Powerplay has had numerous times where bugs and server problems have destroyed months of work (generated from groups of players). You'll never see the bugs that have been in the game for years just dropping 750 merits every 4th week eleven times.

So yes, doing the odd mission is fine. Dedicate weeks on advanced features only to see them fall over is not OK.

... but everyone knows you are a troll, bot, shill, white knight, black knight, etc., etc.... and that you perception of truth is biased by how many illicit substances you have imbibed, ingested, or otherwise introduced into your corporeal substance.

I must be pretty much the same as I've evaded the majority of bugs since starting to pay ED!

But, onto the important issue! did you get the Brahmin down from the roof?

Yeah but you have form Stig, aren't you Braben's mother/father/lover/love child/brother/sister/employer/employee/clone/doppelganger? hehehe

Not unlike me with the September patch where I had to wait for FD to solve it. Admittedly 6 months but...
Yeah, ED screwed up to unplayable levels for me after the September patch too. The joy of your FPS suddenly dropping permanently into single digits, apparently because they added a store to the game.

And some people wonder why a bunch of us wanted Frontier to focus on fixing the bugs, not adding more of them.

That was based almost entirely on people struggling to adapt to change. They eventually calmed down when people who were willing to try new methods explained stuff to them IIRC.

I like playing the BGS, success of fail is still fun. It honestly sounds like you think its a chore, I don't like station repairs as its just poop shifting so I simply don't bother with it.

I totally agree with what was said in the petition, there were far to many game blocking bugs that needed squashed. What I did have a problem with (and I said it at the time on Lave Radio) was that there was going to be a cost elsewhere and no-one seemed to acknowledge this. Fdev only has a certain amount of recourses to expend on maintaining the current product, so a combination of fixing the issues with the September Update and the complaints about quality, probably put paid to the Fleet Carriers for before December anyway.

Complainers about the short Christmas Beta forget that a beta that short in September would have been able to catch most of the issues which happened with the September Update.

What gets me are people who pushed the petition and then are shocked that it's cost development elsewhere and then get on their high horse about it. Personally, I'm not too bothered about Fleet Carriers but am disappointed that the Interstellar Initative and community goals have gone and there's no indication that they'll come back.
